*takes a bow*

and Ceres, I wouldn't mind it, to be honest, but a mod? Me? how could I in good conscience then tell people off for posting a lot of stuff? (notice how I do not say spam :) )

Well a little bit change of topic here, I just can't help myself. :)

I'm planning to buy a new monitor for my home PC. I went to the store earlier and check what's new. Then they suggested me the 19" wide screen Samsung LCD monitor.

I checked it, but it didn't satisfy my taste. The icons and fonts are a bit stretched horizontally and I could see some blurs on them. But the picture and movies were quite nice, as expected from Samsung's performance.

My dad was pushing me also that the wide screen is better than the normal sized screen or conventional which is the square one. He said its best for video viewing.

But I am very doubful, coz I am a gamer. I'm afraid that my game characters and images will appear stretched and awful. I can't imagine playing HoMMV with stretched heroes and units and scenario and everything!

Well, that's just what I expect from a wide screen monitor. I haven't tested it yet with games especially HoMMV. So I'm here asking for your opinion what's better for a gamer like me? A 19" wide screen LCD monitor or just the 19" conventional LCD monitor?

well samsung is definately a good way to go for the brand, I really like their LCD's .... I've been eyeing off the 22" widescreen myself, is very nice, but not convinced I wanna drop the cash for that .... as to the actual question .... not sure, since I don't have one, but I doubt the image would be stretched much if at all .... cause that would seem a little illogical .... maybe get them to run a copy of a game thru it to see

Well, thats a nice idea, but I think they won't allow me to install a game in their computers, though its for business.

Btw, this also made me think: Their price of the wide screen LCD monitor is lower than the conventional one.

Why? :|

I dunno, the widescreens are more expensive here, but not by any great deal ....

IRT: Ceres

Mostly Philips or Samsung or EIZO that will satisfy all your needs. (Or also viewsonic, dell, nec and with that we are closing)

You need to check few things, here they are:
* technology - it should be S-PVA or IPS, worse are combos like s-mva, p-mva most bad is pure TFT(prob. your case). Which is naturally fast and cheap but provides worst colours.
* maximum of provided colours, this is going to be more of problem when you are into photo something, it's question of color converter, these vary from 6bits to 12bits and more, again cheap monitors have the lower value and cannot provide authentical colours (check eizo.com for more info bout these ones, even if they are out of your range I guess :-p, here's explained principle in greater detail )
* one to one function, for support of classic color modes or games which cannot go widescreen in fs (standart for philips)
* optinaly you may check it for two brightness modes, one for video and one for text
* and rely on your eyes :-D
