@Ceres: Well...I can't say I disagree...on any of those counts.
The Yu-Gi-Oh! card game is a bit on the easy side.
And you don't like any art from the game? You must like some of them.
Then again, Magic: The Gathering can be INSANE.
That game has over 100 card abilities...
Splicing, Landwalk, Haste, Sunburst, Regeneration, Trample, Haunt...
Need I go on?
I used to collect them, once upon a time. Of course, no one plays near where I live, so no incentive to start buying again.

I love Magic: the gathering, that was my life before HoMMV. And I like the arts too, looks more serious than Yu-Gi-Oh.
And some of my favorite Animes:
Gunslinger Girl
Burst Angel
Great Teacher Onizuka
Galaxy Angels
Vandread
Pretty Cure (ah, too kiddy )
Magic Knight Rayearth
Yuyu Hakusho
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
Slam Dunk

I'm currently watching an anime called Claymore, very good dark fantasy tale. In a medieval world, humans are threatened by shapeshifting demons with a taste for human flesh. The only ones able to recognize a demon when he takes a human appearance are half-demon, half-human women. Because they are wielding big two-handed swords, the people call them "Claymores". They are dispised and feared, considered as monsters due to their demon blood, even if they fight for mankind. The anime follows the life of one particular Claymore, named Claire. Shortly after the beginning of the series she is joined by Raki, a young boy whose family has been slained by a demon. As their relationship evolve, she reveals more and more of her own past and the tragic events which led her to become a Claymore.
It begins a bit like Berserk (another great anime, BTW) but finds its own pace after 2 or 3 episodes. Great atmosphere, good animation, great music and impressive swordfights

I don't think I know of any anime that was mangled more than Cardcaptor Sakura.Omega_Destroyer wrote:You want a mangled anime show, watch the 4Kids version of One Piece.
Anyway, currently (when I have the time to put on something not on TV) I am also watching through Steam Detectives. It has a feel similar to Big-O, although the robots are not as huge as megadeuces, and the main character is a detective, not a "negotiator"
French version of Hokuto no ken (Fist of the North Star). The only case in the history of french dubs where the actors actually revolted and were so outraged this anime was shown to kids they went on a strike (that's where you see they were french alright :p) Their condition to get back to work was to be able to do what they wanted, and as the french rights-owner didn't care as long as the show was aired he accepted. In the end the french dub of this anime is totally nonsense and really, really funny. Not much to do with the original thoughQurqirish Dragon wrote:I don't think I know of any anime that was mangled more than Cardcaptor Sakura.
Also "Fumoffu" is nice. A bit pythonish...
.. and for kids and about kids and...
:Fumofuuuuu!!!
(it's serial.)

To me Fist of the North Star was far too violent. Its excessive blood spraying, not to mention bodies exploding are IMO an example of all that is wrong with several anime productions, though it has a promising story, but ruined by the bloody effects. Despite my age (quite old among most of you), I love a lot of anime and have listed several of them earlier in the thread. In fact Corribus let us know if you enjoyed any of those we have suggested.Marzhin wrote:French version of Hokuto no ken (Fist of the North Star). Anime is a pretty touchy subject and oftentimes when I join in a discussion about it.. lets just say a lot of flak is fired.
That said, I'll try to keep it as least offending as I can, but if you are a hardcore anime enthusiast prepare yourself, or don't read below.
I think most anime is, in one word, crap. Let me pluck out the details:
Characters: Huge eyes (pupils either abnormally big or just one black dot, NEVER normal), microscopic lips, weird hairstyles. I know some might like it but it looks retarded to me.
Animation: And I thought Japanese people were hard working? I look at any popular tv series and see 1 friggin animation a million times. There's so much recycling I can barely watch it - I bet at some point in Pokemon they just didn't add anything new, just recycled the same things over and over.
Lip sync is downright awful too, usually there are just 2 frames when talking - opened and closed mouth.
Dialogue: This one is just amazing. Oftentimes people fight in anime, and the pre-fight scene can take more then 10 minutes with mind bogling dialogue and stares.
Like this:
Good Guy: You.
Bad Guy: I have been waiting on you..
Good Guy: Stare angle #1, small twich animation, camera slide
Bad Guy: Stare angle #1, small twich animation, cam slide
Good Guy: Are you ready?
Bad Guy: I am ready..
Good Guy: Stare angle #2, small twich animation, cam slide
Bad Guy: Stare angle #2, small twich animation, cam slide
Good Guy: I am ready as well.
Bad Guy: Are you sure you are ready?
Good Guy: Zoomed in stare angle #1, small twich animation, cam slide

Good Guy: I am sure I am ready, but are YOU ready?
Bad Guy: Oh I'm very ready..
...
..
.
Most anime I've seen have all 3 of the above elements. If it just was one I might bare to watch it.
But then, there are some good anime that I saw, both animated and drawn. For the animated, I'm not sure of the name, it was a long cartoon I watched quite a long time ago, it involved cyborgs/robots and I know how many of those exist so..
Also, quality drawings and animations, imo, are like the ones seen in Soul Calibur 3.
I certainly respect good art and story anime, but unfortunately most of the things I see is something that looks like it's drawn in a hurry, animated in the same way and has taken up a script written by a 10 year old.
/puts on hazmat suit.

Point taken with much you say infiltrator but there are still a lot of anime that is worth watching, and I've list several that IMO qualify. Now the two of you seem to be as animated as some of the anime I've seen. So when does the staring stop the the screeming charge begin, today tomorrow?
