Anime
Anime
I enjoy anime movies, but my viewing repertoire is somewhat limited. With a few exceptions, the ones I have seen are limited to those by Miyazaki. These are many of them absolutely beautiful films. I was wondering if there are any anime fans out there and, if so, if you would be kind enough to suggest a few that have the production quality of the Miyazaki films. I would like to add some to my Netflicks queue.

Indeed. He's very good at pointing some interesting one. I have watched some that I enjoyed, and he said they were good, so you have 2x0.
The name of some:
Full Metal Alchemist
Samurai Champloo
Samurai 7
Gantz
I particularly enjoy also Bleach and Naruto but none of them has yet finished, so it can be a bit frustating when you catch on with the last episodes, but they are nice, funny.
I'm not sure of that guy you said. I don't remember the name of the ones who created the aforementioned animes, so sorry if that guy has made any of them.

Thanks for the suggestions. Are these series of many episodes, for feature length films? It doesn't make a difference to me in principle, though I prefer the films. Also I prefer ones that at this point in time have a definite end.
Miyazaki made, for instance, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.
I do not believe any of those who mentioned were made by him.

Ninja Scroll is a classic, so I'd check that out. Ghost in the Shell and Akira are as well, but I was never really fond of either one.
A really good 6 part series that I highly recommend, is FLCL.
And if you really feel like investing some time in a series, the iconic Gundam series is the way to go. The short series, War in the Pocket, is great for pointing out how brutal war is. It is also one of the more depressing series I've watched.

And the chickens. Those damn chickens.
I bought Spirited away three days ago. I just knew the original name was that. They have translated for: Chigero's trip.
Bleach, Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist have movies. I don't know if Champloo or 7 or Gantz have any.

If you enjoy the a LOTR type anime, then one that's fairly good is the Record of Lodoss War and Record of Lodoss War - Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. Now the animation is not Disney level or even close, in fact on several occasions in Heroic Knight a single frame is used for a charging into battle scene. The story and the voice acting are pretty good. Now the timelines between the two can be confusing, but several websites devoted to the series can clear it up, and also give you an idea if your really interested.

I was hoping someone opened an anime thread.
Of course, most of the anime I watch (or rather watched...don't want much anymore) is Yu-Gi-Oh! and the various Dragon Ball series.
I've seen one or two episodes of Naruto and some other series too.
For anime movies...have you guys ever seen Galaxy Express 99 (not sure if that's the name). It's a Terminator-ish type movie (or rather 6 episode mini series) about a boy who wants to become a cyborg and his adventures while traveling across the universe in a flying train.

I rather enjoyed it...but I've heard that most anime series are a lesson in extremes...you ever love 'em or hate 'em...there's no in between.
Some of the fights were incredible...and the original Dragon Ball...well...let's not talk about that one.
The original series was SLOW and CHEESY. To be honest, I only watched it because it precedes DBZ.
I got my whip ready waiting for someone to say, "I love Goku!"
*sigh* He's friggin IMBA! I used to love it when Trunks was fighting. Trunks FTW!!!
@Omega: Of course...you don't know WHAT I'm talking about, do you?

Well Ninja Scroll was mentioned (now there's something to get poisoned on)... but no Lupin the 3rd yet.Kalah wrote:If it turns out you guys are discussing porn cartoons under my very nose I swear I'm gonna close the thread and kick ya'all across the school yard

DBZ was pretty nice until the end of the Frieza saga.... then the repetition really started to get annoying.
The Vision of Escaflowne was enjoyable IMO.

Ninja Scroll it turns out that I've seen, though I may rent it again since it's been some time. What about Wicked City?

I am in complete agreement. And as to Lupin the 3rd, I really liked that anime. It was just fun.ThunderTitan wrote:

Can't say I've seen Wicket City. I'm not big into tentacle rape.
I almost forgot one of my favorites, The Big O. Also check out Cowboy Bebop.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.
Just throwing out names I've heard, not stating a preference myself.
Another one I've seen mentioned is Vampire Hunter or something like that. Hmm... can't remember the name exactly. Does that ring a bell?

Even better if you're 12... did i hate it when Berlusconi decided that only the national tv stations would broadcast outside the country, ruined most of my anime watching.Omega_Destroyer wrote: And as to Lupin the 3rd, I really liked that anime. It was just fun.
