Disciples II: Gold Edition Review
Heroes of Might & Magic is a game playing with armies.Disciples reminds me of the old Dungeon & Dragons games. You get a magic user, priest and a few warriors and go out and get them.It is a good game but I never had the feeling I was controlling armies. What I like about Heroes of Might & Magic 3 was I could have losses and I wouldn't have to do the mundane chore of healing and reviving my forces each battle.
I just bought this game yesterday and I must say I'm impressed.
It's nowhere near as good as Heroes, but it is a fun game and it definitely has that "one more turn" thing going for it. I just couldn't stop playing last night.
If there was one single thing I could take from Disciples II and add to the Heroes series, it's the leveling up feature. Unlike Heroes where you upgraded your creatures once, your people in DII can upgrade up to 4 or 5 times depending on the branch you choose. That to me is awesome and far better than Heroes has ever done.

Disciples II: Gold Edition Review
A good game, but there ain't much challenging quests... in fact, there is nothing challenging in SP!
Thats a shame because the idea and execution were well done.

I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

The biggest problem with the Disciples levelling system is that except for the early stages of a map (and only the first map in a multi-map campaign), if your main hero ever dies (completely- that is, no surviving troops to get him raised), then you might as well quit. There is very little easy experience to develop new heroes, and you cannot have two heroes in one force (so as to "train" a new one). Similarly the upper level troops you sometimes start with in later saga maps are critical to save. It is usually very hard to gain levels for more than one 1st level unit at a time. (I typically tried to always have 1 new unit with my main hero, so I could have a reserve force available)
