Maybe because they can unlock new possibilities for similar creatures. Medusas, Basilisk, Lizardmen, Gorgons, Serpent Flies etc all could make ground for a new town and its goal, philoposy. They could fit in a swamp theme or as an ocean based town...which will be somewhat difficult to balance, make.

They were IMBA!!!
I thought they were cool (but I'm a Water element fanatic...so I'm biased ).
Seriously though...they were pretty pesky...especially those Snap Dragons.
Such a shame Blizzard pulled the WoWarcrack move...I would've really liked to know what happens after Arthas becomes Lich King...
On topic though...
If they can balance it out, I think a sea based race would be pretty cool, IMO.

It will make no sense, but I see it happening. I just hope they tweak them or they will be imbalanced.Angelspit wrote:Do you think the Renegades will be used as alternate upgrades for Haven? What would you like the most?

Because the renegade units and the regular units are supposed to be opposed to each other. And really IMHO a life draining angel doesn't belong in a holy Haven (Heaven) town. Paladins and Fallen Angels in the same town? Doesn't make sense to me. This is a fantasy game and atmosphere is important in such a game, at least to me.Omega_Destroyer wrote:Why wouldn't it make sense to use the unit Nival already created as an alternate?

Err, the town isn't "holy".
There's simply a darker "generation" of warriors available, which of course has a price (saw that in HoF), but it's up to the players to decide what army you will field and whether you employ "havenly warriors of the dark" or not. I mean, the rules state that Knights have the same probability for getting Light and Dark Magic, so I think this is very fitting. You could say that the line between righteous warrior for good and light and zealous crusader with evil in dark is rather thin and the units reflect this.

Priest--paladin--archangel. Seems kind of holy to me.Jolly Joker wrote:Err, the town isn't "holy".

And the empire is called Holy Griffin Empire a number of times in the campaign if I am not mistaken. They worship t he Dragon of Light, eh?

Since the earliest Tolkiens works the human was shown as a race whose soul is split by righteousness and greed (they were actually the only ones who were passively corrupted by their rings), but at the same time in the image of Aragorn a centerpiece for victory.Jolly Joker wrote:... the rules state that Knights have the same probability for getting Light and Dark Magic, so I think this is very fitting. in HOMM5: Somehow the Haven town seems much less corruptable, the buildings resemble churches filled with angel shaped structures and wings. There is no way to deny that this indeed gives an aspect of holliness and purity (that GOW has remarked).
IMO it goes a little bit beyond the simple concept of two opposed phylosophies (the peaceful Vs. the hard line). This generates inumerous small controversies (how do the inquistors accept a kingdom that bases its security on summoning fallen angels?)

Forget about the magic schools... it's your choice whether you want to make your heroes dark-magic users and "evil".It's even easier: how do they accept magic that is half DARK (look at their mage guild: Weakness, Curse, Blind.... can THEY be "holy"?
The thing is that the Fallen Knight ability has a reason to why it decreases the morale of your troops.
And I hate the renegades, I just hope they will NOT be in the Haven town, but I guess they will
Hide, listen, watch, learn… And when the time is right, strike from the shadow.

I disagree that names are just names. It is the Holy Griffin Empire. They worship the Dragon of Light. They have priests (of the Dragon of Light), paladins (who are certainly holy warriors;lay on hands ability), archangels (certainly they are holy;raise dead ability.)Jolly Joker wrote:It's even easier: how do they accept magic that is half DARK (look at their mage guild: Weakness, Curse, Blind.... can THEY be "holy"?
Names are just that, Paladin and Angel on one, Inquisitor on the other.
In the end they all kill.
As has been pointed out, the city itself looks very churchy.
Inquisitor: The Inquisitors are the keepers of the true faith of Elrath, the Holy Dragon of Light. As such they fight fiercely against non-believers and enemies of the Church. On the battlefield Inquisitors do not enter the melee, but rather summon the wrath of Elrath on enemy troops while protecting their own with support spells
Paladins: The Paladins are the ultimate guardians and elite troops of the Holy Griffin Empire. Mounted on powerful horses and heavily armoured, they are at their best when they charge enemy troops from afar. Even better, Paladins have the ability to dispel enemy curses cast on their ranks.
Angels: The Angels are the incarnation of Elrath on Ashan, and as such they are the ultimate representation of his power. These creatures of Light are fierce in combat and their attacks are always deadly. An angel cannot be killed, if its body is endangered it will return to its spirit form and rejoin its master.
It is quite unbelievable to have the incarnation of Elrath and those who have forsaken Elrath (Fallen Angels) in the same town much less in the same building.
Atmosphere makes a difference in a fantasy game. They need to make different creatures for the alternate upgrades, not to use the renegades.
