Marketplace rates

Unread postby jeffekun » 29 May 2007, 19:53

I play Heroes II, III & V. And I always thought the marketplace rates were a rip-off. Like, 10 sulfur for 1 gem?!

The rates improve with more marketplaces, but by that time I feel I have so many resources, there's no need to trade anymore.

What do you think?

I've always felt the Marketplace rates in H2 and H3 were pretty good (I don't own H5, but I assume it's like H3). If you're desperate enough to be trading at the 20:1 or 10:1 rate, then the Marketplace is doing an excellent job of charging you appropriately.

It's pretty easy to accumulate hundreds of wood or ore, but not *all* of the rare resources. Obviously it depends on the map, but I often have a ton of a resource that I don't need. Marketplaces are cheap to build and provide an easy way to cash in on a surplus in one or two resources.

Try out Heroes IV; the marketplace rates are VERY player friendly there. ;)

In H3 it's about five towns, ehm, outer marketplace has power of five towns. Till you have less towns go here, when more don't bother.

There is a new screenshot on the Equilibris site showing the new trading ratios that are being considered.

Outer marketplace has power of three towns if I remember correctly. Rate is 5:1 for resources of equal rarity, it's fine.

If 1-town marketplace had these rates I'd use it a lot more. Would be more useful in the beginning of map, when trade is most needed.
