Joe Gibbs should be finding a top notch GM who could see the Skins through a Two-Year Turnaround. Take any player who is tradeable but does not have that "Real Redskin" in them and move them for draft picks. Take the "Real Redskins" and lock them up to long term contracts - signing them one-year before their contracts are up to extensions and creating a team full of players knowing where they are and who are around them.
Then use the draft picks to either draft or trade bait for players around the league that you treasure to fill gaps.
One can hope...

I don't know if anyone can explain Snyder logic, but I'll ask anyways. After the Lavar Arrington debacle, why would he then be interested in another headcase linebacker, namely one Lance Briggs?

That one's actually easy.
Lavar was more of a case of weighing the overall effectiveness. When he first came in the league Arrington was a man-beast with big burst speed and a nose for the ball. With injuries and the number of hits (both delivered and taken) his speed and tackling abilities had lessened. On top of that, although he has a nose for the football - he had a dreadful time picking up Greg W's defensive scheme and was consistantly out of position. He became expendable because of his contract.
Lance Briggs has 363 tackles in his last three years and has played every game (48) to only 23 for Lavar. He is healthy and although he is mad about being franchised and threatening to sit 10 games for the Bears, it's obvious that he can play smart defense.
Lavar's best three years in a row (2001-2003) totalled under 290 tackles.
Briggs has a good opportunity for at least 2-3 very good years before his legs start wearing down - one of the big reasons he was hoping to cash in on free agency this year. If I'm the skins, I try to get Chicago to do the 6-for-31 swap although they already refused that deal. The Bears also have a 2nd Round Pick (#37 overall), which ironically originally belonged to the Skins (through the Jets). They could be trying to angle for either that swap or to pick up one of our linebackers in trade.
The Skins have Rocky McIntosh (a 2nd rounder) who played pretty well last year in his rookie season. But Briggs would be a tremendous help. And with Washington (the other OLB) going on his 8th year... Rocky will still get a great amount of playing time.

I'm hoping to see the Cowboys get some safety and offensive line help, along with a nice, young receiver. Hopefully, we'll get enough in the draft to help push us up to the top in the NFC.
I may be a little biased as a Cowboys fan, but living in Virginia, it looks like Snyder doesn't know how the hell to built a team. They constantly trade picks for "big-name" players that underachieve and spend huge amounts of money with no regard to chemistry whatsoever. Until they start to use their draft picks smartly, I don't see them contending anytime soon.

I loved Lavar and it was hard to see him go, just as it was hard to see Stephen Davis go a few years ago, but it was time. He was a freak of nature, but as gravy said too many beatings and too many defensive coordinators prevented him from quite living up to his potential.

The Skins are haunted by the ghost of George Allen. They want to build around veterans while the NFL does not work that way anymore. To win under the cap, you have to use young talent and churn the roster like the Pats do.
Michael Griffin would be a great fit for the Cowboys, but they won't take him because he's from Texas. Their main need is a corner and some depth in the OL. I expect Jones to sign another veteran wide out.

Griffin to the Cowboys would be perfect, but we've needed another safety opposite Williams for a few years now, and it hasn't happened.
As for the Texans, their mistake last year will last for years. Passing on both Bush and Young is unexplainable and must be horrific for fans of that franchise. Sure Mario Williams might turn out to be great, but he'll NEVER have the impact of Bush or Young, or even Jay Cutler or Leinart. Unbelievable, even a year later...

Since Angelspit wants to talk hockey in the football thread, I might as well bring up the NBA playoffs. It is absolutely great to have three solid teams from Texas -- yes, I love all three of them. The Mavs have been something else this year and having lost in the finals last time they have both the experience and motivation to go all the way. But to do that, they are going to have to get past the Spurs and that may be hard the way SA has elevated its game lately. And the Rockets have the best Guard/Center combo in the league (sorry Miami) and could do some serious damage before they are done. The East is a bunch of pussies, but I'm taking Chicago over Detroit.

Anyhow, I was kinda surprised to see that Chris Leak wasn't drafted. I realize that he's listed at 5-11. But it seems there's another 5-11 guy, drafted in the 4th round a few years ago, who didn't do too bad in a backup role over in Seattle. Oh well, Bears are giving him a shot.

The Houston/Utah matchup was a 4 vs 5, so anything could happen, but
the collapse of the Mavs came as a real shock.
I'll stick with the Spurs all the way now. And the Bulls had me a little worried being down 0-3, but miracles do happen. We'll see tonight.
