Tribes of the East Clarifications

Unread postby Angelspit » 18 Apr 2007, 15:32

Community manager Acheval posted two clarifications about the upcoming Tribes of the East expansion on the <a href="/http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... ">official forum</a>. The first one is about the stand-alone nature of the product and the inclusion of some Hammers of Fate content:

<i>"As mentioned in the announcement, ToE will be a stand-alone product. It will work by itself, as an add-on for Heroes V, or as an add-on to Heroes V and HoF. As a stand-alone, it will include all factions (including the dwarves) from the previous titles, but not any of the other content (maps and campaigns)."</i>

The second one is about the alternative upgrade levels, but you probably figured out what they did by yourself already. On a completely unrelated note, we still haven't found a good nickname for the expansion. What will be the follow-up to Farmers of Hate? The best I can think of is Brides of the Beast, but what do you suggest?

I had hoped that going for one upgrade precludes the hiring of the alternative upgrade (similarly to the hiring system in Heroes 4), but that doesn't look like it's going to be the case.

As for a nick name, I suggest Mimes of the Least.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

I'm not too happy about the fact that you'll be able to hire both upgrades in the same town. Sort of does away with the fact that you have to sacrifice something to gain something else (like in HoMM IV).

Ah well.

I agree with you. Are they doing this to not need to change the building screen?

So the faction from the expansion is included but not maps and campaigns. Hah! Those who bought HoF have been fooled of almost all they payed.

Only thing they can comfort themselves with is the campaign that owners of HoF won't get (maps on the other hand....) :D

Cries of the Fleeced
Lies of the Beast

Oh, and having both upgrades in one building is laziness on Nival's part and will make lots of story maps not make sense at all. Life draining angels in a town fighting a holy war against necromancers? Shame, shame, shame.

Edit: Ok, I wrote some (bad) poetry to push the nickname.
Cries of the Fleeced

Singing and shouting and dancing on tables,

Fleeced, Fleeced!

What of the quality of HOMM labels?

Lets all be hippies and get real "peaced!"

But how can we this game eschew?

Oh what can we say?

Oh what can we do?

Still we continue to play!
Lies of the Beast

Two upgrades in one building's not bad.

A grave implication, rot!

You say you've been had!

You ungrateful drunken lot!

We are Nival!

Get down off those tables,

You've got some gall!

Now cease all your fables!

I wonder if you can disable units. That would help those maps. Should be possible since the mapeditor is so powerful.

I'm rather sure the map editor will at least have something like a check-box for each town that will allow to check of either one of the unit lines, albeit not necessarily one for each unit.

Furthermore in reality you will always pick something because you can have only so many units and 7 stacks. So while you can have both units of the same tier you will have to divide their numbers and leave something else at home then.

But will the computer be smart enough to chose to do that or wind up with 2 level ones, 2 level twos and 2 level threes? Make the player and the computer chose which one to build or there will be lots of problems with the AI.

couldn't we save the maps from the old games in the TotE folder? Or would that not work?

I'm guessing that TOTE will have a separate editor like HOF. You'll probably need to save each of those maps with that editor to get TOTE content in the maps (like the ability to chose the orcs.) Editing the maps to allow the new skills and spells will also probably be necessary.
