Ylaya's Quest - The Spy

Unread postby Ar.Pi » 17 Apr 2007, 02:40

Hey all,

I'm on Campaign 3 mission 1 in HoF.

I want to build a hero with Rage of the Elements which means i wont have any magic skill with Ylaya cuz she starts with Basic Attack.
Is it doable? i tried this mission once and dont want to spend much time if i cant go this route.

Doable? Probably.

It would be a heck of a challenge though...and IMO, Rage of the Elements isn't worth it.

If you manage to do it, post back ok? I barely beat level 1 myself (at normal! :(), got lucky with Secrets of Destruction and got Circle of Winter which gave me some magic ability to beat the map.

Good luck!

I still don't understand why it's a mixed campaign.

That mission does require a lot of discretion. I was stuck with Lightning bolt and Magic Arrow or whatever it is called. Thankfully I got Master of Storms, which made my life easier.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

well i'll try one more time but if it wont go through i dont have the time to get stuck on this first mission.

What other hard obstacles (that i must defeat) except the Druids are on this mission?

You will have a large group of priests or liches (you get to choose between them) that you'll have to beat to end the mission. Not sure how you will beat them with no magic. Get there fast! They grow in numbers quickly.

Ok got it thanx.
But i rather fight with the Priests. They are fewer than Liches and for my tastes much weaker.

OK, i made it on my second attempt at this mission.

First time i took the Boots as bonus but after getting familirize with the mission (and with the informative Walkthrough on this site) i took 2 Shadow Witches (Good damage and use of Slow Spell).

So, first, i rushed towards the Druids. I didnt stray out of the main road except killing and collecting everything on the way. I just made it before the end of the week and faced 24 druids in 2 packs of 14. I lost 13 Blood Furies (this was my main and almost only lost on this mission).

I must say that what really helped me along the way was Luck. Early in the game i picked it up and with Basic Luck & Golden Horseshoe i was striking with Luck pretty frequently.

I continued to underground and along the way picked up Decay which is nice against Archers. And before i reached the Ghosts i got Power of Speed (after Tactics) which was of also huge help to me. I Killed a horde of Hunters and took another +1 to Spellpower. I killed the Ghosts with zero casualties.

Then i took out the Marksman guarding the Scroll of Resurrection (mainly good to resurrect those lost Furies that are lost from Ranged and damn Ice Bolt damage of water elements). I lost 1 Blood Fury there. After that (thanks to shep61 for the tip) i killed the Priests from the other side guarding The Final Spot for completing mission.
Then i started going back and killed those Wolves guarding Spellpower +1 (lost 1 Minotaur Guard).

Thats about it. From there i started going back to collect all the stat boosters along the way and killing the Sidequest creatures...
One of the most problematic and annoying battle was with the Water Elements that were guarding the Minotaurs but after 2-3 tries i also passed this one without loses.

Total Loses: 14 Blood Furies and 1 Minotaur Guard.

I used a lot of saves though :D

Here is my final Stats and skills:
