Hammers of Fate- Single Scenario- In Search of Power- Help!

The hero, Veyer, is a demon that has to learn Ultimate Gating.

I've conquered the three enemy towns to gain the artifacts that I need and gained so many levels that I no longer have anything to learn, but my hero is still not allowed to pass through the gates: "Hero is not ready to visit Mount Flame."

I restarted the game and gave my hero all the experience he needs and made sure that I chose every gating skill but no luck - it ends at Expert Gating.

I used secondary heroes to help clear the map, collect resources and creatures but made sure that Veyer seized each town. (Did I miss something important that only Veyer should do?)

What am I missing? How can I gain Ultimate Gating? What does my hero need to do to pass the gate to Mount Flame?

I'd appreciate any help.

Find the Pendant of Mastery. It'll increase your gating level by 1.

One of my other heroes is carrying it around. I didn't even think about that.
