Heck, I'm not sure, I'm gonna give out three I really like almost every song of..
Cranberries
Evanescence
Linkin Park
Then there are bands which I like some songs of but dislike others (Rammstein, Shania Twain and Maddona for example).

I can certainly put no 2-record band like Linkin Park under the sticker "favorite band"; in 40 years of listening music that leaves not enough of an impression. Reducing it to 5 is difficult as well.
But if a condition was that the band would still be around then I'd have to name
Iggy Pop (with or without the Stooges, no matter).

They are so cool! I heard "Where Are You" on the radio and went and got that album a few weeks later (their newest album; the only one I have).

A band can do a great song or album, but completely fail in some other categories/songs/albums. A favourite band for me is a band whom I trust enough to buy their products without a second thought. It does not require 10 years of activity to gain such trust in my case. Indeed, you can call *my* favorites "current favourites" or "favourites of the last 3540,5 days" if you wish. For me "favourite" is not exactly a synonyme to "the best band in human history".Jolly Joker wrote:What about Best Album or Best Song categories? Not to mention Currently Listening or Best Band of the last decade?
