But when you think about it, the second map wasn't actually difficult. The reason it stopped so many people was that it played completely differently from what the players knew at that time. I mean, when I recall the time I got to that map, I remember just how little I knew about the game: Even the concepts that were essentially the same as in H3 were difficult to me (e.g. ranking of creatures by power, not to mention their special abilities) and I certainly didn't know anything about the new stuff. The new features such as a relative power of hero skills, the use of potions, the mechanics of combat, all of these were beyond me at the time. But that doesn't mean the map was difficult - it was just poorly placed (it should probably appear in a third or fourth campaign). To prove my point, just remember how many people couldn't destroy the wall in the first map - it wasn't because it was difficult, but because it was a completely new concept for a Heroes game and people didn't realize they should actually read the game texts...

The key to winning the first map of Tawni campaign on Champion is to skip the Asylum and head directly for the first barbarian town - your forces are way too weak to capture your neutral town quickly enough.

You can actually attack the barbarian town with your (rather pathetic) starting army of rogues and pirates? Never even thought of doing that, will try it out!

P.S.: Most of the walkthroughs for the HoMM IV expansion campaigns are missing from the site. We really should put them together some day.
The expansion campaigns are listed on this walkthrough site: http://web.archive.org/web/200304171834 ... aignw.html

Unfortunately, they're not done as well or in as much detail as the walkthroughs on this site. But it does give you some idea of what to expect.

To add to the current discussion: The Academy campaign in the original H4 was the easiest in my opinion, once the charm skill was levelled up it became pretty easy.
