Searched for years? How old are you if I may?
Anyway I am glad you did. Good friends are scarce and close friends are irreplaceable, even more if female. It's not as easy to have a close friendship between a guy and a girl.

I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

I might have to toss your own question back at you, Elvin. How old are you? Most of my close friends are male. I tease that my best Girlfriend just happens to be male. And all of his friends are female.Elvin wrote:It's not as easy to have a close friendship between a guy and a girl.
I always had trouble relating to other females. Even as a child I gravitated toward the boys. Most people just said I was a "Tom Boy". I liked trucks, dogs and climbing trees more than baby dolls. I had Barbies and 'Dawn' dolls, but frequently rode them around in Tonka Jeeps stolen from my brother.
In Jr. High (middle school) and High School, I was pretty much shuned by everyone. I won't got there. To depressing.
By College, I had a couple of very good female friends. And a whole STRING of wide eyed, drooling boys who followed around after me like a pack of puppies. THAT my friends, was a FUN kind of power, and most women hated me for it.
Then I got married and had kids and started working on a carreer and ALL my friends just sort of drifted away as they were doing the same thing. Working way to hard on making a family life and a home to consentrate on friends.
Then things started settleing down again, the facts that I STILL prefer an action or horror movie to a Chick Flic, read Steven King and David Eddings instead of Harliquin Romances, would rather spend my vaccation at a theme park or hiking in the mountains instead of wasting time lying around a pool 'working on my tan'. I don't give a flip about jewelry, fashion or doing my hair. I've never been to a spa or had my nails done... It's just that the stuff I like tends to be more 'guy stuff' than 'girl stuff.' Heck! I even play HEROES and CIVILIZATION instead of working a lame MySpace or Blog!
I get along better with men because my interests tend to be more 'male dominated' areas. - But don't talk Sports or Cars to me, I don't give a spit about those.
My best 'girlfriend' who happens to be male? He's bi-sexual... sort of the best of both worlds. He can talk home improvement, but can do the actual repairs, not just change the curtains and pillows. He'll happily dye my hair for me. He think's I'm hot, but still doesn't mind a little 'boy watching' either. I've loved him most of my life, but never had a 'relationship' with him. He's the perfect friend, sort of both sexes rolled into one.
I am not talking about myself. My best friend is female and we have even slept together without something happening. I am 21 by the way
What I see around me is that people below their thirties either cannot get as close to girls because they don't feel like it (more comfortable with other guys) or they pursue a relationship with them after some time. The majority that I know of would easily forget about the friendship part and move on when they have the chance. And I'm not talking about the people that are around girls pretending to be friends so that they can make their move.
About what you said...The girls who don't have many girl-friends aren't as many. Some I know say they are gravitated to boys because of the general interests(true, not cars hehe ) and because they find them more honest. For instance guys usually mean what they say though that's not always the case! Not much jealousy either.
(To avoid misunderstandings even female friends have admitted to that )
Edit:
I mean serious friendship, not a casual one. Casual can be easily found in either sex.

you should watch the film: When Harry met Sally... that's an interesting tale about man-woman friendship.
The problem is straight men wanna nail all women they meet. OTOH women trust men as their frieds more that women due to the fact that women are very competitive towards another woman.
So the compromise would be:
a) a gay man... that is a good friend to a woman
b) a guy that had all the women in the world and searches something else
c) a man and a woman each in very long-term and stable relationships
any other posibility than those of the above look to me like the guy was too chicken to make a move and the woman took advantage of this to make him her trusty friend to whom she can speak about other men...
but I might be also teasing you all

Almost 25. Her health was never great (she ended up with cancer), so when we lost touch for 3 years, I assumed the worst. It may not seem like it, but losing one of your best friends for 3 years is a horrible feeling.Elvin wrote:@Omega_Destroyer

No, not sexist at all. And the fact that it's true only makes so much worse. He's bi-sexual... sort of the best of both worlds. He can talk home improvement, but can do the actual repairs, not just change the curtains and pillows.

Veldryn 15:15 And Vel found a dirty old jawbone of a walrus and put forth his hand, and took it, and in his unholy rage, he slew thirty four thousand men and children therewith.
