The Disciples Memorial

Unread postby Angelspit » 14 Feb 2007, 16:23

Dark Messiah wasn't the game of the year, but it was behind of the biggest happenings of the Might and Magic community, the Disciples of Sareth missions. What started as a simple marketing gimmick of Ubisoft (there were similar sites for Ghost Recon and Company of Heroes, among others, and we found out that Phenrig wasn't the real Phenrig!) quickly turned into a friendly forum visited by very creative community members. Considering that a lot of prizes were won by a relatively small number of people, we will never know if "DoS" generated as much hype as Ubisoft hoped it would do.

The most valuable disciple of the event and winner of the Dark Messiah computer, arturchix, didn't stop his work when the site closed during the holidays. Today, he put the final touches to a memorial page for the Disciples site that includes a large gallery with all contest entries, with permission from the DoS administrator. The wallpapers, the coloring contest, the banners and the dress-up pictures, they are all there, yet another page of the big history book of Might and Magic.

I really wonder... How did this page end up with the number 666?

There are a lot of demons in Dark Messiah, but the catholic church would more likely frown at Xana's topless scene.

Did arturchix ever get that computer?

I heard a while ago that the prizes hadn't come yet a long time after the contest ended and people were getting quite suspicious of Ubisoft. That was really funny.

Well, it's supposed to arrive in this week. It's not that simple - since I'm living in Europe, I had to officially live in North America so that Ubisoft can ship me any prizes. Angelspit was very kind to help me out so all of the shipments were sent to Canada first. The comp was sent out after Christmas but the delivery was overdue for about two weeks. Then all the customs stuff, sending it here to Europe - I hope it will make in one piece - any day I'm waiting that it will arrive. :) That's a long story short.

The page ID is a feature. ;)

Is Ubisoft in North America or Europe?

Hmm...two weeks overdue. You sure you can't sue them for that, and/or sue them for the bad condition the computer came in?

Ubisoft is a French company but the prizes of that particular contest could be shipped only within North America. Not that it was a problem for most of the DoS members who were European. ;)

I don't think I can sue FedEx since they probably aren't responsible for any delays. If this would be the case, they would have bankrupt a long time ago.

I certainly wouldn't recommend suing FedEx, especially if your computer arrived in working order.

And technically, Ubisoft is in North America. I believe they are registered under the laws of California and possibly Delaware.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

Ok, Ok, it was just an idea.

Trust me, I'm not one to jump to lawsuits at the drop of a hat, I was just throwing the question out there.
