I have recently purchased and I am quite enjoying the game. However, there seems to be some sort of problem. In Campaign Mission 4 things got reeeeaaaaal slow about 4 or so turns in. I am talking like 2-3 frames a second. Even when I pause to navigate the menu screens the cursor is wonky and sluggish. I have experimented with settings, and it really only slightly affects the performance.
It is my opinion this should not be happening. I have had full maps working previously with zero slowdown. I have tried rebooting, shutting down background programs, etc. with no luck.
I have an AMD 64 4000+ with 1 gig of ram and a BFG 7900 GS. I hardly think this game could this rig to a literal crawl. I am running XP fully updated and the most current version of Direct X.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

The game has been known to slow down during Ai turns if it gets a hold of the Instant Travel spell. Another known issue is aligning your camera so that it's looks almost parallel to the ground. I'm not sure to which extent they've been fixed by patches, but it's something you could check.

Why is the AI so slow anyway? It could understand that if it were very intelligent. But it is not.
More surprising is that the AI often seems to change its plans in the middle of a move. I'm currently playing mission 5 of the Sylvan campaign. I've already trashed Nicolai a few times so his army is quite weak, weaker than mine. Not just because I use my troops smarter, but really weaker. A few turns ago, he walked towards my hero, paused for several seconds, and then walked back again. What's up with that? Why does it take several seconds to evaluate if it can attack me or not? And why can't he think about that before walking towards me. What kind of newbie AI is this?
Strangest perhaps of all is that the AI is very fast during combat. I've never noticed any delay in it moving its units, it always acts instantly. I certainly wouldn't mind if it thought for a tenth of a second every now and then, before doing something stupid.
