A <a href="/http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?ar ... 9">preview of Heroes V</a> at Eurogamer tells the story of Ubisoft as it picked up the HoMM series and tried to find a way to market it to a new audience. I'll summarize it with a little dialogue made with actual quotes from the article:
<ul>
<li>"Heroes of Might and Magic was starting to fall apart. It's a bit like the Police Academy series, really."
<li>"We're doing Heroes 5, what are your expectations?"
<li>"We want Heroes 3, with new graphics."
<li>"They worship Heroes 3, it's like they kneel in front of it each morning when they go to work..."
<li>"It's not like you are just an evil guy who wants to rule the world - you've got a past history that explains your reasons."
<li>"Or you can play as a fascist, burning people at the stake for criticising you. So it works in two ways."</ul>
I wish you could see my raised eyebrow right now. Fortunately, The article talks a little about the various multiplayer modes, in case you missed them. There is also a reference to Heroes VI as "the game that changes the series, and takes it in another direction."
<a href="/viewtopic.php?p=11531&highlight=#11531"><img src="/admin/crankyhero/crankyhero4_th.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10></a>The Cranky Hero and Celeste (that's the name the Round Table people gave her) <a href="/viewtopic.php?p=11531&highlight=#11531">discuss automatic translation</a>. Don't miss the calendar featuring a famous mouse in the background. It isn't related in any way to Fabrice Cambounet's new <a href="/http://www.forumplanet.com/hmmv/topic.a ... >signature image</a>. OK, here what I thought postitive...:
"This time around, you'll learn all about the history of how the factions came to exist and their motivations for fighting each other."
"Heroes 5 will also see the return of the sense of moral ambiguity which was present in the previous games."
I also think the in-battle time limit sounds interesting. I didn't get that ghost thing... Hope the battle scenes won't look too much like "Street fighter" or "Final Fantasy"...

You mean there are other reasons to take over the world besides the fact that it would be fun? Methinks our new heroes might have some psychological traumas.

You mean you couldn't burn people at the stake in previous ones? Funny, I always liked to think that's what happens to the enemy after i take a town.

Didn't Gauldoth do something like that? Or was it only he that ran that risk?ThunderTitan wrote: You mean you couldn't burn people at the stake in previous ones? Funny, I always liked to think that's what happens to the enemy after i take a town.

Don't really recall, as i finished that campaign a long time ago. But he was more the Saladin type (as in the not-kill-everyone-on-sight-to-gain-popularity type), so i doubt it.Gaidal Cain wrote: Didn't Gauldoth do something like that? Or was it only he that ran that risk?
He did trick people into getting themselves killed on their own. Got to admire him for that.

The "new direction" of the serie makes laugh in a very bitter way. Some time ago, just after I've found out that Ubisoft bought the game, I said to somebody : "H6 will be a 3D RTS game. I bet my legs and hands on it!". After the term of "simultanous turns" was mentioned, I knew for sure that none of my body parts has to be sarificed for this. Now, this is just another proof...
Damn you, Ubisoft...

Veldryn 15:15 And Vel found a dirty old jawbone of a walrus and put forth his hand, and took it, and in his unholy rage, he slew thirty four thousand men and children therewith.

This was a very ridicolous announcement from you Veldrynus )))))))))))))))
This is a little funny. I always thought that Heroes IV tried to reign in the over expansion that the series was taking in HOMM3 and the expansions. HOMM4 was actually a little closer to where the series was in HOMM2. I liked that about the game. I truly wish that 3do would have actaully finished and fixed HOMM4, but I guess you have to rush and release when you are going down like and anvil.
Let's hope that Ubisoft or Nival doesn't get into that position anytime soon.

I think he did it just once as a revenge to those that tried to burn him on the stake for the crime he didnt commit.Gaidal Cain wrote:Didn't Gauldoth do something like that? So HVI will be HIV with better graphics?Angelspit wrote:I wish you could see my raised eyebrow right now. This one is my favouriteBut that doesn't mean the game has lost any of its depth, Cambounet argues. "The complexity of the game - the number of creatures and skills, and tactics you can use on the battlefield - are still present. But you don't spend as much time reading text, opening and closing pop-ups, moving around the battlefield... We don't want to make the game simpler, but easier to access."

@Gauldoth statements:
Yup. Guy he burned was named “Sir Mardor” and Gauldoth gave him a big speech about how Great Arcan was already respected for the fairness of its laws but Gauldoth never got a trial. Then he burned him, reanimated him and bound him as his lieutenant.

Welcome to the club Veldrynus, that is the "Club of Harassed Fans" that is people who dare to say anything negative against Heroes V. Most of the people on this forum & the official UbiSoft forum will go along with anything Ubi/Nival throws at them, as long as they have the opportunity to play the game.hahakocka wrote:This was a very ridicolous announcement from you Veldrynus )))))))))))))))
Never mind if the game turns out to be a horrendous piece of crap, or is a clone of Heroes III or comes with a copy-protection that could play havoc with your PC, who cares anyway? BLAH!!
