Just in time for the beginning of the Heroes of Might and Magic V open beta test, I share with you my impressions of the beta version of the game. The article, a list of 10 things you should know before you start testing, has been approved by Fabrice Cambounet before publication. Since I was not allowed to talk about the content of the game, I listed the strengths of the game, highlighted some of the areas that are still under construction and tried to provide a description of what the game feels like to a veteran player, something that was missing from the previews published until now. Read it all here.

Excellent. I am more excited than ever. Perhaps if Fabrice let you publish the small negative comments (ie not seeing stacks etc), may mean that they are working on a solution.
Good work AS

Before I give up my day job and swear eternal allegiance with those on a glorious crusade in the favour of a larger battlefield. Please tell me if you feel that the smaller field has negative effect on the strategic depth of the game? If not then I’m fine with it.

Re: Beta Test Hands-On
Personally, I think it works very good as long as you don't have a full army. So my stance is that 8x10 is a bit too small, but that it doesn't have to be increased a lot to work

Beta Test Hands-On
Im not a beta tester but Im even more excited over H5 than before thank to AS newsletter, still im a bit sceptical if the 8x10 BF and the interface will be good enough, I hope so.
Im not as worried about SF as before, but still keep an eye open.
Not seeing stack number dont have to be bad, I imagine Icons with numbers over or in them at other place at the screen than over each stacks head, who knows how it will be.
Cant wait to listen to the games music! Glad there are only 2-4 months left =)
HV seems to be an excellent game, and I hope UBI & Nival LISTEN to their fans as they seem to have. Keep up the good work, I feel this game will be a classic.

Regarding the battlefield size, didn't Nival/Ubi say they changed it based on feedback from beta testing? But since everybody's complaining 8X10 is too small now, I wonder who advised them to do it in the first place.
Glad to hear that a lot of effort has been put into multiplayer. On the other hand, I hope the AI which has been put on the back burner will be decent enough so that people won't be forced to play multiplayer to have fun.

Beta Test Hands-On
Well, still the 8x10 was on a scan of a magazine a many times they give us "wrong" information, so who knows xD.

I wonder how the "big" units in a number of 7 in an army plus the enemy army of the same size will fit in the battlfield. I think that 8x10 is too small. Enyone remember how big the battlefield was in HIII?

Re: Beta Test Hands-On
It was 11x15 in H3 (A speed 13, 1-hex creature (such as a dragonfly) could attack a 1-hex directly across from itself, so the field is 15 wide; 7 creatures + 4 war machines, each on its own line fit exactly, so 11 rows)Orfinn wrote:I think it was 12x18 or 14x16, not suredragonn wrote:I wonder how the "big" units in a number of 7 in an army plus the enemy army of the same size will fit in the battlfield.
