Spock and Dansky Interview

Unread postby Angelspit » 14 Dec 2006, 03:25

Celestial Heavens spoke to Jeff Spock and Richard Dansky, both writers for the new Might and Magic franchise and other Ubisoft titles. With the help of Round Table forum members, we asked them about their inspiration, the references to Sandro and Crag Hack and the limitations of strategy and action games when developing a storyline. We also requested some clarifications about the events that took place in the recent Might and Magic games, and got a tiny scoop about the nature of Jeff's new project. Obviously, the article is filled with spoilers for Heroes V, Hammers of Fate and Dark Messiah, so proceed at your own risk.

I'd like to thank Kareeah Indaga, theLuckyDragon and Elvin, whose questions have been printed in the article, Guillaume de Butler at Ubisoft for his assistance and Marzhin for his questions and his edits.

Some thoughts:
I've worked on games including Far Cry, Cold Fear, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and a few others for Ubi.
.

Well,that sure explains a lot.
along the lines of tales by Neil Gaiman, Jack Vance, and Roger Zelazny as well as the "pure" high fantasy authors that Richard mentioned.
Are there other neil gaiman, jack vance and roger zelazny Im not aware of? :|
The main campaign had an interesting story line but it revolved around a few people, their personal goals, and their friends and enemies.
:| 8|
The scope of that kind of story seems to me to be more fitting to an FPS or RPG than a strategy game where you need to conquer cities, build armies, and collect resources.
Yes,well thats why heroes is an RPG/TBS mix and not a pure either of those.
The part of the world history I like best, though, is the rebellion of the orcs. In so much fantasy, the orcs are just the generic bad guys, so to have them stand up for something and be punished, brutally, for doing so - I think that's interesting and powerful, and there's a lot that can be done with it.
Did I hear someone say warcraft?
By the way, for those of you who play the English version you may notice that Findan occasionally speaks to himself in haiku.
You dont say?

Meh, not very enlightening... At least we know there's something afoot with the hidden orders and those two moons...
Thanks for the interview, CH!

Let me just say that the M&M community will not be disappointed! A certain combination between the letters M, M, X and the & mark?

Hmm,I had the feeling we would soon learn about the undercover war and the order founders.Or the fact the the dragon could not be inactive for long.Heck,Elrath made himself pretty obvious in HoF!

The rest is just an explanation we should be given while playing the game.I think it's better that they focused more on the characters than on generic conquering.I specifically liked Agrael,Zehir and Markal just for the tweaks Jeff Spock mentions.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

The fans not being disappointed relies on two things, firstly that the game is made, and much more importantly - that is made well! If they do that, then we have good news indeed
