Why do they call it open if it's only for a select few?

Open Beta will most likely be restricted to a specific number of people, like the WoW Open Beta or the Guild Wars open beta's were.

In the event that it is not, well, hurray for everyone... but I really think it will be.

From what I understand, it will be more than that, but how much I know not.

@Xenofex:

well many bugs have probably been fixed since the closed betas but that may be the only difference. if open does not refer to open but actually refers to less closed then that may very well be the only difference.

which is fine really; if I can't participate I'd like to hear about the game instead.

Well betas are normally not open to everyone, only for those who are interested in the game or software.

My guess is that it will be open for registered members of the official HOMMV site.

As a member of the Closed Beta (some of us are being given more "open" abilities), I can say this: The Open Beta will be open to ANYONE and EVERYONE. Though if there is a limit on the number of people who participate, it will be fairly high. No exact number has been given, but I would not be surprised to see it higher than 15k.

15000 was an estimation of Visions. It could be far more places for all we know.

And I doubt that they're going to just let those who manages to get there first play the beta...

Yes, that 15k is an estimate. That number was put out because it was the number of beta-test applications for the closed beta a few months back.

It could be far more. As we know, the WoW open beta had over 100,000 people at the beginning, and the Guild Wars previews also had close to 100,000 each time they ran that.

Actually, the play for the first phase of the tournament will be open challenge, just like any other open tournament in the Oracle League.

Applying for the tournament, once it is open, is easy. On the Oracle League website, log into your account, go to the "Player Control Panel", and click on "Tournament Registration". Select the "H5 Beta Open Tournament", submit, and you are "OK to go!"
