Do you mean the fortress (dwarves?)

I believe that on the pre-Hammers-of-Fate maps you can't chose the dwarven heroes. This will be addressed in the next map hopefully.

So until then just play the maps that shiped with HOF or fan made HOF maps if you want to play dwarves.

I'm sorry to ask this, but how can I tell which maps shipped with HOF and which are original, since HOF shows all the maps?

Your best bet would be to put in the original Heroes V disc and write down those map names. (there aren't many). Then you'll know which maps are the old ones when you boot up hof.

There is a mod that enables dwarven heroes in ALL maps

NOTE: it also enables the campaign heroes for custom map play...
