Maybe the slug is his father? ;)

Why would they need to sexes if one was enough?! I'm gonna go with 2.

Voted both... why? well... if you have made me choose between Solmyr and just Solymr... I would say Solmyr since it can be pronounced easier and I must say I too belived at first to be a spelling error...

But Solymr ibn Wali Barad has also a nice ring to it... like some arabic mithologic name... so it's cool

"Wali" means "friend" in Arabic. (Confirmed by Wikipedia, but I first learned it in an academic class on Islam.) Wikipedia also says that "Barad" means "cold" (citation). Given genies' fondness for snow towns and Ice Bolt, I think that makes sense. Neither Solmyr nor Solymr appears to be a genuine name/word in any language, at least according to Google.

Voted "Solmyr." Solymr is tempting because people use the nickname "Soly" for him, but I like the original version's pronunciation better. :D

Vote Solmyr

I prefer the spelling Solmyr but I normally pronounce it Solymr. Odd, I know.

I voted Solymr because that is the closer spelling to the way I actually say his name: Sa-li-mer.

This really depends on the proper pronunciation. For all we know it's pronounced the same way in both cases.

Solmyr ['sɔl mi:r]
Solymr ['sɔ li mr] or ['sɔ li mər]
[ɔ] alternates with [o] because of habit (Romanian doesn't have [ɔ])

For me, at least.

That's why I added the last line.

It's very simple, actually (even if you don't have the phonetics course right next to you :D ). I'm sure you can find all this somewhere on the Internet.

[ɔ] is open "o", as in English "stop" or the Hungarian vowel written as "a". [ə] is the "ă" sound of Romanian, or the "er" part of the English words "better", "waiter".

Solmyr is actually an anagram of mr. Osly (o is replaced with y just to make it less obvious).

This shows clearly that he is actually a norsk.

its all because nwc wanted to move genies to mountains.

After extensive research, I have concluded that NWC wasn't too picky about the linguistic heritage of their genie names. As found with Google and a bunch of name sites:

Aenain: not real name
Aine (Gaelic): radiance, happiness
Alem (Arabic): wise man
Brissa (Spanish): Short form of Briseida, from Briseis, the Greek name of the woman loved by Achilles in Homer's "Iliad."
Daremyth: not real name
Fafner (Norse): mythical dragon [Siegfreid]
Halon (English): Any of several halocarbons used as fire-extinguishing agents.
Iona (Greek): violet; (Scottish) placename of island
Jubal (Hebrew): “small stream” or “ram’s horn,” mentioned in Bible as first musician
Neela (Sanskrit): blue
Qubar: not real name???
Sharah (Arabic) Not sure what it means as a name; as a word, it means "commentary" (BTW, Arabic-to-English web translators are useless to English speakers. ) It's also a word and/or word root in Biblical Hebrew.
Solymr/ Solmyr: not real name
Thane (English/Scottish): Noble title for feudal landholders
Yog: not real name...but see this.

My favorite is Halon. :D

Another thought occurs: If genies procreate but are immortal and never die (in H4, Solmyr implies that they cannot die), then the genie population is ever-increasing. Can they all stay on the Plane of Air? Is the world to be swamped with genies? ;|

Genies can alter their shape, and usually, have a master, so it's not so much that they need to procreate.

Besides, I've never heard of genies procreating anyways.
