Ok, so for some reason I got the urge to play Heroes 2 again after ... years. So I did, for like 10 minutes, a week or so ago. I'm pretty sure I was in WinXP when I played it but it might have been in Win98 cuz I do have dual boot installed. But I could've sworn I was in WinXP, from what I remember. But anyway, now I get the following error message when I try to play it (in XP):
"16 bit Windows Subsystem" [title]
"J:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close'to terminate the application."
I notice in the FAQ section it even talks about heroes 2 sound problems in win2k and winxp, so that means it does work in winxp for the rest of you guys, right?? So wth could be wrong with my comp??
H2 -- not working in WinXP??

Yeah but I get that same error message when I try to launch the setup!
Dammit, something must be wrong with my whole OS! *%#$#!*(&%!!
... could I have possibly screwed something up by using my antivirus?? I haven't had an antivirus for a while and now I installed one and deleted a number of infected files that it found ... none of them seemed anything vital though; they were mostly from temp folders. But still, when H2 did work, it was definitely b4 I installed the antivirus.

Dang, thank you so much! Everything's cool now. Just out of curiosity, do u know what might have caused my Config.nt and Autoexec.nt files to be messed up? My Config.nt file prior to me going through the troubleshooting steps (i looked) had a bunch of extra stuff written in there. And the autoexec.nt file was missing completely.
I am not an expert, but what i have understood the autoexec.nt is most likely missing due to XP service pack 2. On some weird reason SP2 update may remove that file. To my best knowledge both files autoexec and config.nt are needed only for running old 16 bit DOS programs and coordinate the memory usage for these. Deleting or modifying them should not affect anything else that old DOS applications, if any, in your system.
