Hello, me and my friends have recently gotten back into Heroes and I noticed something really odd - the dungeon heroes (warlocks) start with basic dark magic, and get the option to have advanced, then master, etc.. as they level up, but their magic guild doesn't even teach dark magic spells! I got someone up to expert in magic, only to find that that character didn't have any dark magic spells. What's the deal?
Also, as an aside, you can't split creatures - that's weak. Say I want to leave half my stack back in town, I can't do it.

Only the first two ones, meaning Yrbeth and Lethos. The others don'tEGD Eric wrote:the dungeon heroes (warlocks) start with basic dark magic

And there are many ways to learn Dark Magic spells, one is in the town (if you're lucky with the 3rd spell in the first three levels), and others are from adventure map objects, be it either Magical Shrines or Treasure Buildings with spell rewards. But indeed making use of Dark Magic for a non-dark magic native town (like dungeon) is pretty difficult at times.

Then your shift key isn't working.
You have to hold "Shift" whole time you drag a creature from one "box" to another, then you will be presented with a split screen and you can set the numbers of creatures. Remember to hold the Shift, not just press shift one time then drag creatures back and forth. Oh and I think it doesn't matter which Shift you hold (left or right)
Oh, and yes it is well thought out. Warlocks are really good spell casters and Dark magic is really powerful, you should play with Lethos, he gets Decay and it gets really really powerful late game, and that could be only Dark Magic spell you have
I find Lethos extremely good Warlock Hero + if you get Destruction or Summoning Magic on him

Another solution is to get spells from your matriarchs, all you need is arcane intuition. Yrbeth is probably the worst hero in the game so I could care less but Lethos is a force to be reckoned with, his special at high level can bring armies to their knees. Of course you are better off playing maps where you know you have places where you can learn dark magic.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Hmm, if it still doesn't work (the split thing), try to write something in Notepad with Shift and see if it works to write capital letters. If not then your Shift is not working.
