Editing Modding Abilities, Artifacts, Heroes

I'm interested in modifying creature abilities, harpy flying-behemoth ignore defense-black dragon spell resistance etc

artifacts-what they do, where they're placed, the XP value which ones are given as random at beginning of map

heroes what innate special abilities they have-Sir Mullich +2 speed to necromancy or +8 speed and changing the % specials (isra tazar etc) from +5% a level to +50% etc

ERM scares me and I do NOT have WOG installed (nothing against it just the aesthetics creep me out)

I'm interested in making changes in hex
I've searched and read these links

I've used TXT edit on some of the TXT files however the Artraits causes the map editor to crash

I really appreciate any help you can give
I'm looking for the offsets and any other help that can be given

As far as I understand, you can only change limited things by text. Amounts and a few stats. Basic number stuff. To go more in depth, abilities and so forth. You need ERM. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong here)
And for that you would need WOG. It's worth a try at least. Who knows? You might find something you like.

I've already done the txt editing
I've taken it as far as I can
I tried WOG and found that I didn't like the massive multitude of extras constantly
I like HOMM3 I simply wish to change small parts and so since TXT editing can't do it and I don't want to write a script for every change I'd much rather use HEX editing as I've seen what it can do for the secondary skills and am asking for help on how to HEX edit the hero specialty's, The creature ability's ("piqueman flying" etc), and Artifacts (pretty much everything about artifacts)

so in conclusion I'm asking for HEX help in editing I know there are people out there far more knowledgeable in Hex editing this game then I will probably ever be I'd really like to know which offsets to change
