Heroes of Might and Magic IV Complete - Ubisoft Exclusive

Unread postby gravyluvr » 14 Feb 2006, 20:48

So I finally received my HOMM IV Complete DVD here in the US!

Consider this a combination of "Technical Corner for HOMM4" and as a place to ask questions about the DVD package and features.

For those who already own the product and have been using it...

Are there any suggestions or things that I should look out for?

Should I install them in a certain order?

Can I add the Equilibris Mod without a problem?

Should I move all my custom maps to another folder in case the installation blows them away?

Most people says they have no problemos to intall the EQ mod with H4 Complete, but with me its a different story. Anyway im enjoying the game very much, so as long as Im satisfied, no need for EQ.

Okay, so I moved all my maps and everything off of the main file directory. Then I reloaded HOMM4, the original, renamed both the Game and campaign editor, and installed each of the expansions (repeating the renames), and finally Equilibris. So now I have four independant games and capaign editors so I can go back if I want.

Since I never had played any of the expansions I loaded up the one with Bohb and Violet. I played the first map but actually defeated the hero with the Wayfaring boots very early, before I had Bohb visit the Nature area so I went back and have replayed the map. I have Bob, Violet, and two barbarians (Jadne and Yog).

I'm wondering what difference there is between having HIV+TGS+WOW and HIV Complete. To my knowledge the differences are:

4 CD-ROMs vs. 1 DVD-ROM
3 Crappy printed manuals vs. no printed manual

In addition, Complete should be fully patched and afaik it offers some goodies (new installation screens and HV preview videos).

So my questions are:
- I am correct on the above?
- Are the manuals included on the Complete DVD?
- Are there other goodies on the DVD besides the installation screens and HV previews?
- And is there anything else that would be different?

I'm asking because Complete has become so cheap (EUR 5) that I consider buying it even though I already have the 3 "singles" (just for the sake of completeness).

Yes but as PDF.

Everything else is about the same. I would recommend it for new players or people like myself who never got the expansions.

Now that I also have HIV Complete, I noticed two things:

There is no WoW manual on the DVD ... just like with the normal WoW edition. (That one comes with a printed manual, though.)

I couldn't find any goodies besides the new installation screen.

Is the complete edition available in the US, I thought it was an Amazon.UK exclusive?

Last I heard you should install them in the order they appeared. And Equi after. You can play both Equi and the normal game without changeing anything, as they have different .exe files.

Sorry I had been looking at so many forums I forgot this one was H I-IV, but that does not detract from the fact neither complete editions have been released here. :disagree:

I hope that HIV Complete will be released sometime in the near future here in the U.S., because it is a bummer...

I came across a copy of Heroes IV Complete for the first time today in EBgames. I never received a reply from Ubi Soft as to its release here in Australia - but I guess it's around if you're lucky enough to spot it!

Query:

For those of you in the North America who've ordered Heroes IV Complete from overseas, are there any region encoding issues?

Thanks for an answer

Answer:

Region encoding usually applies to DVD videos, not games. There's nothing on the box to indicate any format. Just make sure your edition is in English, and enjoy playing without the DVD in the drive.

(Insert rebuke of RT for not answering my question)

Having investigated that a little further, I've come to the conclusion that there are simply no goodies on disk:

The "Goodies" item on the installation screen (as shown in a thread on the old Round Table) isn't present in my version of Complete.

It seems there are two versions of Complete: Ubisoft exclusive (comes in a blue DVD case) and a "plain" version (comes in a CD jewelcase only).

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought it would be wasteful to make another one.

Anyway, since getting TGS and WoW single are fairly difficult, I am very interested in buying Heroes 4 Complete, published by Ubisoft.

My question is, did Ubisoft screw anything up? Do fan maps still work? Online play? Patches? Etc.?

Thanks,

There are separate patches for the Ubisoft version of HoMM4. They, along with the needed spellbook fix, are available on our H4 patch pages. Maps should work, as well as Equilibris. Other fan-made mods might not.

Thank you, I think that pretty much alleviates all my concerns with it.

Ok if you load WoW and use that as the engine to play all of the previous versions, it is my understanding that fixes all of the previous editions' issues. However I had not heard of the spellbook fix. :cantsee: Is it needed if you use WoW? I finally got the Heroes III and IV complete UBI DVD and have been using it as my back up disc as I still have all of the original discs. With the UBI version I had no difficulties with Equilibris.
