Here are the ratings again. *Some* may find them interesting.

Single rating

1) Vampire Lord 25.27
2) Crusader 19.59
3) Greater Basilisk 18.45
4) Silver Pegasus 18.34
5) Ogre Mage 18.25
6) Arch Mage 18.19
7) Medusa Queen 16.28
8) Horned Demon 15.42
9) Energy Elemental 13.89

This means Vamp Lords are another class, actually, Crusaders are an easy 2nd, while 3-6 is actually pretty equal.
Weekly production changes this SLIGHTLY: Due to the higher production of Silver Pegasi and Energy Elementals the Pegasi move up to rank 2 and the Elementals to rank 7.

Cost effectivity:
1) Silver Pegasus 6.67
2) Horned Demon 5.71
3) Vampire Lord 5.05
4) Medusa Queen 4.93
5) Crusader 4.90
6) Greater Basilisk 4.61
7) Ogre Mage 4.56
8) Arch Mage 4.04
9) Energy Elemental 3.47

Not much of a choice here, although the Demon masses are as good as the skeleton masses and the Pegasus is a very useful unit.
ZZZzzzz....

Voted Silver Pegasus

I love those flying horses. They are very fast … and even if you choose to let the Pegasi wait, their speed almost always gives your Hero first chance at casting a spell. And while they have less hit points & attack, they have a 20% better growth rate and cost less than most of the others. Silver Pegasi have a pretty good specialty too.

Greater Basilisk was a close second. They are pretty tough and have a great specialty.

Vampire Lords. Their stats are nothing special, but their special abilities are among the best of all units, independent of level.

If we include other factors, Horned Demons, much like Skeletons, would win.

I waited this poll, just to see JJ and Banedon argumenting. :D. But for real I think this is the obviuosest of all, and just because of the Vamp. Lord speciality.

Voted Vampire Lords.
Amazing special abilities.

Crusaders and Pegasi were runners up.
Crusaders have an insane damage potential for a lvl 4 unit, but is hindered by low HP and speed.
Pegasi are amazingly cheap considering what you get.. a fast flyer, that deals decent damage.

No doubt about it for me. With life drain, no retaliation, and being a flyer, the Vampire Lord easily gets my vote.

Archmage.

No melee penalty, Can shoot through castle walls. Enough said.

Although I do think they are overpriced compared to the regular Mage, which has exactly the same specials.

To me, those specials are pretty lackluster. The first one because I don't want the enemy to hit my shooters period, unless they're a really strong unit in and of itself like the titan. The second one is good when sieging castle but I will be fighting the majority of my battles out in the open.

I voted for Crusaders. The Vampire Lord's special ability is nice but they never seem to regenerate as much as you think they should.

Hmm, I haven't voted for any flyers yet. My "all-star" army might need some mad Ballistics skill. :-D

This is one of particular pools, when I would go with more units according the situation. So, no, no unit here is shining over others so high that it could became my number one.

However I most like the Pegasi. They have a great use. And people are a bit underestimating them I think. Level 3 was tight, level 4 is even tougher. - The balance level here is the highest.

In fact their discussion was interesting, but the above sentence wasn't that serious.

It may be a strong, but VampireLs are double as useful as any other 4 lvl creature.
I see them way better. Their only weakness is a lifeless enemy, or a high defense.
The Crusaders are true butchers, but they are a bit slow.
The SPegasi are fast, they can cross the battlefield in one turn, but with low HP and low damage they can't live on their own that much.

Vote Crusaders. They deal a whole lot more damage than everyone else, and that makes them awesome. They aren't particularly fragile (high defense, considerable HP for a level 4 unit) and kill so fast that they might not incur much retaliation damage. The real weakness is speed, which unfortunately the only cure is Haste (or Sir Mullich :D)

That said, if it comes to bringing 50 Crusaders or 50 Vampire Lords against the map, the choice would clearly be the Vampire Lords. For Crusaders to excel they need the Marksmen behind them.

We think almost the same, except we made different choices for who is top :) The Pegasi are great at giving you the initiative on the battlefield, and they can move quickly to neutralize enemy shooters. They're not the best damage dealers or tankers but as a utility unit they're pretty good.

I had to pick the vamps, in an army they're both excellent for reasons already discussed but single unit army, the vamps take it easy!
