Heroes 5 Freezes on startup

I have been playing heroes 5 for a while but decided to patch my file from 1.04 to 1.05. The game would freeze up on startup and just show the heores logo on a black screen. The bad thing about it is once this happens I have to reboot the computer and then run scandisk everytime. Before the patch to 1.05 I would just keep trying until the game loaded. Since I loaded 1.05 the game froze a couple times right at the start of combat and then after that it would not start again. Everytime I try to start the game it now freezes at the logo screen with the black background. I am at a loss here on how to run this game.

EDIT - The game does work consistantly when I reinstall with the Heroes 5 game disk and NO patches. I want to be able to play the patched games with the Necromancer Campaign with the new revamp of the class. But my game will not work with a patch update. I do not get any crash message on patching or any message at all . It just freezez on startup.

I reinstalled DirectX 9c and that did not correct the problem.

Are you using the updater or manually patching?

If I remember right you need to install 1.4, then 1.41 before you install 1.5 or it will not work right.

Yes, I updated in this order.. 1.01 -> 1.02 -> 1.03 -> 1.04 -> 1.041 -> 1.05

I selected all my patch downloads for the Retail/CD/DVD version of the software from Ubisoft's website.

The problem seems to start when I update 1.01. It worked at first try then when I tried to load again it locked up.

The patches install without error I just cant get the game to run without freezing on startup.

Yes, I updated in this order.. 1.01 -> 1.02 -> 1.03 -> 1.04 -> 1.041 -> 1.05

You don't need to install the first three patches. Start with 1.04 (it contains the previous three), then 1.041 and 1.05.

Try if this works for you.

Well the next step would be to provide system specifications.

The game freezes on weak systems...but the heroes tweaker can get around it.

The tweaker is somewhere on maps4heroes.
