Windows Vista and MODs

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. The directory tree is not the same as on earlier versions of Windows. I am unable to locate the GameMechanics folder. Microsoft has also devised a security system that really makes it just about impossible to access the "My Documents" folder. Initially it was hidden but I figured that out, however it keeps telling that Access is Denied.

I am the Administrator of the system as well as the owner of the My Documents folder. I'm about ready to go try to find a copy of XP and ditch Vista.

Any suggestions???
