PCX in data causes crash!

Unread postby Artas1984 » 08 Sep 2007, 22:24

After editing some PCX files as BMP extansion files and placing them as PCX files in data folder, after loading Heroes III, my game crashes on the point where the PCX is beying used on the screen.

For example TXT files in data do not cause crash if there ar no BS scripts in the text...

Anybody can say anything why PCX in data causes crash? Even if i paint in that PCX just a slight margin, it causes crash whenever i should see the image on active window...

I guess that I can... but would be easier to mention which pcx did you changed.

You mast take care over bitmap color depth - less than 256 colors, in same case also about dpi, which's rare but game would not like 300dpi :-p and, of course, dimensions.

You'r right, i forgot about the restrictions of the image...

So 256 colors is max?

What max bit depth in that case? 16? 24 too much?

What max vertical and horisontal dpi?

And what about the color represantation? Does this matter?

All matters. Sure 256 is the max, personally I'm using 242 color or similar, alas that mean nothing like 16bit or 24bits or more willd be possible. 256 is 8bit - indexed. I think that game is comfortable with anything from 20dpi to 100. From 72 to 94 it's a typical range for normal monitor. And to the 'Color Representation' I have a good news for you, it doesn't. You can omit that.

You can edit anyone what you like ;)

And in case of color artifacts check if color values in the problematic region aren't higher than 240(in any RGB value), if not decrease to 239 for fix.
