It can also help if you have the Fly spell from the previous map. Out-building the AI is boring attrition and may in fact be impossible. If they assemble a very large stack (and they have a lot of strong creature generators to do that), you will probably need Expert-level Town Portal to assemble an army to withstand a siege. And while you're doing that, the AI will be assembling another army. They only have Necropolises, so they can merge armies, whereas you cannot.
