H3: Good start for Tower?

Unread postby jeffekun » 30 May 2007, 16:00

I read Jolly Joker's strategy guides. Wow, I never imagined that Cerberi or Dragonflies are the most important creatures in week 2.

Sadly the guide for Tower is missing, and I'm having trouble with this town. So, what is considered a good start for Tower?

I don't know if i pick MG's + a lot of Gargs and Golems, or MG's + Mages, or just 2 Nagas and all my resources gone. I play Hard, btw.

:)
Never got around to writing Tower.
You have to upgrade the Gremlins, equip the Gargoyles you have, divide them to bodyguard the Gremlins and move ahead.
On hard you have enough money and resources to buy a couple higher level units early but you have to keep in mind that your most important build will be the upgrade from Giant to Titan because the gain is so high when you do, and that upgrade is pretty expensive.
For magic your unit speeds suck, so you should go for Air Magic (apart from Earth Magic, of course) and Mass Haste.

Can be said Rissa + lots of, best if upgraded, gremlins, gargoyles and golems afaik few mages doesn't hurt either. For building mages which are critical you will need a buck of all resource so be prepared.

Where exactly are you having problem? Or what you are doing now?

PS Haste is going with Cyra as well as Diplomacy but later it can be a bit problematical heroine.

I usually pick all gold, go with 2 Nagas and Master Gremlins, and have a veeery slow town build in week 2 ;)

I can win with this, but it seems suboptimal, and I can't do this on harder difficulties.

Thanks for the tips! Guess I just need to guard my Gremlins better.

Yes, the gremlins are key for the start - and also from the start easier way how to accumulate them is, now limited, gremlin rush - hiring another tower hero.

Your only fast unit is gorgoyle, so if you are planning to deal with elves, bad eyes, archers upgrade it and use it greatly. They have similar importancy like Dragon Flies for Fortress.

If you are going short of money you may also try Aine. She is cool ;)

Support with Slow/Haste/Bless/Precision is also worthy off.

I would recommend at least three nagas per army. Having built giant's temple asap, upgrade later - accumulate them meanwhile.

Maybe that I forgot Neela? She should be not ommited as well.

Cyra/Haste
Rissa/+Mercury and "like" Logistic
Neela/Armorer

* PS Don't wait for Nagas they are gona to be ready for the second wave (start of second week). Till that time you need to conquering and accumulating resources like Devil :-D (First three lvl units among with few mages are quite sufficient for this task. That assuming at least 50 Mr. Gremlins but better will be 100)

Playing Tower in Homm3 can be summarized in 2 words:

Titans ASAP

Unless the map is really poor and mines are too strongly defended I don't upgrade the gremlins. I use them as any other lv1, a strong stack and some baits if needed. The goal is to build nagas asap and use them early for hard fights. Goal should be nagas + castle (and not skip genies) and sometimes if possible giants + citadel. Giants on snow (speed 8) are already a formidable force, titans can wait.
