Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

Unread postby asandir » 13 Feb 2007, 00:47

This is more for number II, but it can cover both I think.

Anyone played this little baby? I rented it a coupla days ago and really enjoying it (I did own number I and that was fun too, but II really seems to have a good step up in the fun stakes).

went for something a bit different to usual for me, picked the moon elf necromancer, where I would normally go straight for the Tank, in this case the barbarian.

I'm still fairly close to the start, in Act I, clearing Bloodmire manor

I only played the first one.

Beat it completely with the Dwarf Fighter (even in Extreme, the highest difficulty).

If they make BG:DA 3, they should have the create-a-character option (what if I wanted an Elf fighter for example?).

I own and have beaten both. I foundt hem to both be quite enjoyable because I enjoy button mashers. If you want a good one, check out Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

But back to Dark Alliance 2. The necromancer is a very good choice, especially later on in the game. I found the Barbarian to be pretty dull, and later on when he upgrades, it's a bit useless.

that's kinda why I steered clear of him this time, just wanted some different skill choices - went for enervation (or whatever it's called) and it's a great skill at this point in the game, although I really need to max out my Ironwill and clarity feats (to reduce cost and increase mana regen) and then I can hit up the empower feat .... he's working pretty well at this stage, totally unreliant on brute force, which is a nice change for me

canna wait to get my claws into some real shadow magic!

I used enervation primarily until I got the shadow skills. I can't tell you which of those I used. It'd been a really long time since I played DA2.

methinks it would have been shadow spray, the one with the ribbons of mega damage!

Played it. Got hooked. My GF got hooked too. Too bad there won't be a completion of the story.

There might be. People like button mashers and the 2nd one reviewed positive reiviews, so it seems likely that a 3rd game will be made.

well, I'm in the fourth act now (the shadow skills be doing some damage!!!)

Shadow Spray is awesome!

got some good gear and stockpiled a massive amount of cash, made myself a +4 ring of strength and intelligence and a +5 ring of wisdom and intelligence

picked up the +4 Ice Witch Amulet as well (+4 Intelligence and Iron Will)

needless to say my energy never gets low!!

It's actually quite easy as the necromancer, summon shadow fiend, then shadow shield then shadow spray the bad guys to death

Well I finished it, and it was good, found acts III and IV a bit rushed but good.

had some sweet loot, but when I started Extreme difficulty with my necromancer they stripped everything from me .... couldn't be bothered after that :(

Ouch...that's the way it works in BG:DA1 too :( .

Then again, in that game, the loot drops get excessively good quickly, so you're able to compensate for your initial loss of equipment.

Is there a Gauntlet mode in 2?

The Gauntlet in the first one lets you play as Drizzt and you have to clear out several rooms (can't remember the exact number of rooms right now) of creatures. That last room before the staircase is a killer.

Did I mention you get roughly 10 Healing Potions, and a 15 minute time limit? :D

If you beat the Gauntlet you unlock Drizzt for singleplayer and Extreme difficulty.

yeah I completed the guanlet in DA I, and you get to use Drizzt after completing the game on any difficulty - he's pretty mean

no guantlet mode though in II, and the loot drops are good right off the bat in Extreme mode, but the cash was a killer, I had hundreds of thousands, and was ready to make some +10 amulets and rings .... not to be

Played these what seems forever ago. Hardly remember anything about them, except I did like their level/point system. They were very fun. Even the hardest setting became too easy eventually though :(.

well, I only played the prologue (upto Baldurs Gate) on Extreme, and did not find it tough with Ysuran
