Myst series

Unread postby theLuckyDragon » 23 Dec 2006, 18:21

I can't believe there wasn't a topic about Myst in the Hall! Well, here it is then :D

I was absolutely fascinated with the series ever since the first game. I don't have it though, I played it on a friend's computer; after that there was a pause...

A few years ago I found Riven at great price, bought it and the moment I started playing, I 'fell in love' with the game again; I practically devoured the game in a week or so. Then I also found Exile, and recently I found Revelation, which I finished yesterday (well, technically it was very very early today...).

What can I say, I love this series! Its main components (environment, story and gameplay) blend wonderfully. The graphics and sounds are great, and the story, although a bit cliché in a few places, is well written and carefully dosed in each episode... just enough to complete the adventure and then a bit of suspense... I especially like the amulet-method used in Revelation. As for gameplay, what's an adventure game without a few mind-benders? I even liked the annoying puzzles in Myst IV (monkeys, singing rocks... those who played know the stuff ;))

All in all, I think is one of Ubi's better productions, and the people at Cyan did a very good job. What do you guys think?

I was quickly bored when I tried to play it. The story seemed interesting but I never cared enough to finish it.

I list Myst as one of the worst games ever made. Nothing like spending an hour trying to find your way out of a labyrinth using sounds alone...

I like puzzles but that was just pointless. I can't say anything about the sequels because if sequels mean "more of the same" {and they usually do} then I'll pass, no matter how cheap.

The 7th Guest was a much more enjoyable puzzle/adventure game according to me. My girlfriend owns most of the Must games, but she usually gives up on them after a while and goes back to The Sims 2.
