Wouldn't it be more like cybermage then cyberpunk?
Never played it, but i did like the explination for why magic and tech don't work together.

I thought this was a great RPG for its time. Real nice story, with decent graphics for its time. (Yes, the music was a bit repetitive after a while, but not terrible.)
It was rather unbalanced though, IMO. For example, mages were far easier to play as than techies...mostly becuase magic was easy to learn and had no material components.
I'm actually thinking about going back and playing Planescape: Torment, another game made by Black Isle back in 1999. I've heard it's one of the best...

We think that it really is (one of) the best.

I think Arcanum is one of the best RPGs out there. Dialogue is solid and flexible (try making an idiot character). I especially liked when I could convice (with high charisma & persuasion) final enemy to change his mind about destroying the world, still had to fight him though the battle was easier. Most of the sidequests (for example skull of siamese twins) were interesting and the mainplot was fantastic. Not to mention that the game world felt very fresh after all these AD&D games. And the choice of musicstyle was perfect. I do think every character style is playable (provided you level it right) but for beginners Half-Ogre with melee is very solid. Real Time battle was rather dangerous without many followers at least. Also props up for enchanging non-combat skills in the game.
