I'm going with Sinitar. He is generally powerful with no inherent weaknesses. In MP like SP furies are taken out first so that advantage is lost. Lethos starts with dark magic which limits his ability, although his special can be really awesome. Assassins and misstresses are good but not top of the pile. Lizard bite can be very useful, but you need to be very good with raiders, and they will also be targeted first. Minotaurs are useful in the final battle as you will probably have a large number of them as no one ever targets them. I just consider dark ritual useless most of the time, but thats due to lack of experience with it...and thats about all.
I am pleased if my random hero is
Sinitar, Eruina, Vayshan or Yrwanna
I like Lethos too, as he is fun to play with. Not the most effective one though.
I don't mind having Kythra as a secondary, getting that Recruitment is JOY. And she now can handle a few fights with that Ice bolt she starts with. Lousy troops still.. Yrbeth and Sorgal are the worst.

I like Kythra. Morale is the Dungeon faction's silent killer. Add Attack for Tactics and Logisics for Teleport Assault and even the Minotaurs start getting deadly.
I really don't like any of the Dark Magic warlocks {since there are two, shouldn't the mage guild be Destructive and Dark magic?}, Eruina has great starting skills but a really boring special ability {It's not even a real attack}, Sinitar has problems finding the early mana, Vayshan is pointless as Assassins do more poison damage than physical damage, warlocks don't need Battle Frenzy so Sorgal's out.
Yrwanna. Well, I can't argue with Enlightenment as a starting skill and Intelligence is a great boon to Warlocks in general. Good but kind of weak without Defense.

I like Vayshan the most. He has the best starting army. He can get Warlock's Luck fairly early. Assassins have crappy ranged attack but they're effective melee units.
Kythra is very good and often underestimated. She starts with Leadership, which is very useful for Dungeon, and Warlocks have a very low chance of getting it. Kythra has the best chance of getting Aura of Speed and Retribution, which gives +5% damage per point of morale. Unfortunately her starting army is really crappy.
Yrbeth and Sorgal are probably the two worst Dungeon heroes. Yrbeth's specialization isn't very useful and she starts with Dark Magic, which is not associated with Dungeon. Sorgal's specialization is not that impressive plus he starts with Battle Frenzy, which means that he can't get Retribution.

I guess that I'll stick with the two default heroes. Sinitar is nice when his empowered spells are basically free ... ESP with the increased mana costs we see with patch 1.3. Yrwanna is nice because of intelligence [makes up for extra mana] and the nice boost to Blood Furies.
I'm not really good enough to win a lot with Dungeon so when I get another hero by random it doesn't matter to me because I know that I'm already in trouble

Well I aint that good with Dungeon either anymore, perhaps too much playing other races (Sylvan, Academy mostly)
I voted for Eruina, as you are not so tied to one aproach. Getting Tactics on level 2 is a very good way to start a game. Or Master of Lightning (she starts with Lightning Bolt). The speciality isn't very powerful but I favour those with tendency towards both Might & Magic, (also the reason I like Yrwanna), oh and she also has Ammo Cart. :p Sinitar is the best IMO, but that is partly why I don't like playing him. And the fact you are half-forced to play him too strictly, I mean even more tied to Destructive than other Warlocks. He is powerful though.

Actually with Yrwanna they have good defense... so I guess their only weakness are spells.
I for one voted for Sinitar. I find him really powerful, although end-game Yrwanna sounds also powerful to me, since she would get a big mana pool due to intellgence...
Nevertheless even with the 2 mana cost reducing perks from sorcery high level spells like meteor shower would be somewhat expensive to cast. So.... voila... Sinitar

Actually that's not the point.Starting with intelligence all you need to do to go magic all the way is get sorcery and destructive. Then it's either luck or logistics. What I've seen is that since destructive got nerfed one should specialize in it to realise its potential and leave attack-tactics out.The reason? The furies won't survive in a big battle and it's mostly them that benefit from it.What you'll end up with is your hero and his ever reliable magic with the ability to use guerilla attacks if you don't win a decisive battle. But at any rate you can always use raise dead to really exploit your special after the furies are dead Bwahahaha!atma6 wrote:Well a lot of votes for the Blood Fury queen, but really how many of them generally survive once you go up against something that isn't melee?
In earlygame you just keep them out of battles against ranged unless you got windstrider boots or aura of swiftness.Have used them this way and let me tell you, they are effective!
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

I think this should be changed. Corpses should not become unusable if a creature is on top of them... it's kind of silly this way... What annoyed me the most is sometime when I tried to get into the castle, by the door ... there was a corpse there so the door was open, and as soon as my hydra stepped on the corpse it covered it and the door closed.... I mean... that's sillyPhoenixReborn wrote:I try to stand on enemy stacks that I don't want ressurected/raised.
