Lava & Magma Dragons?!

Unread postby erased. over. out » 13 Oct 2006, 19:56

When I first read that we would have Lava & Magma Dragons heading the Fortress faction, my initial thought was: AHHHHHHHH! I mean, what the &!*%? I'm not saying that I could've thought of a better creature (or maybe I am), but c'mon! Dragons and dwarves teaming up is just plain ludicrous! Does anyone else agree? They could've had a giant rabid wolf-like creature like Fenrir or maybe even a Frost Giant.

The Lava & Magma Dragons are just perfect for the dwarven town!

Im not sure what to call those fiery beasts....lets see if i could remember the golden guildlines for the draconic familiy of overgrown lizards/ serpents whatever....

Dragon: A pair of wings, two front and hind limbs. Mostly breathe fire but also acid, ice etc.

Wyvern: A pair of wings, two legs but no arms. Poisounous/Toxic but dosent breathe fire etc at all

Wyrm: A gigantic snake. Mostly breathing fire.

Drake: No wings, walks on all four. May breathe fire, ice or nothing at all.

But now this new lvl 7 creature....Im a bit confused but I would call it a Drake and IMHO it should be named DRAKE, since it dont have any wings at all...but there is a catch, it dosent walk on all four but stands and may even walk at its hind limbs.... Maybe call it Lava...Magma Dravon, either that or go for Drake. Enough Dragons alredy, save this one from the Dragonia storm and let the rest of the Draconic family slip into the game.. :-D

don t, please DON T speak about the semiotic diference of drakes and dragons on these boards... that could lead to something bad, very bad!

But about magma dragons, I don t see the problem, they don t have wings sine they live underground, near guess what ??? Yes , MAGMA !! youuhou, and what else... ?? yes dwarves too, so.... it makes sense!!

And try again to think OUTSIDE of the box !!
I support(ed?) Nival... flame on !!!
The truth pure and simple is seldom pure and never simple...

You know, given how you frequently produce one-liners that blindly defend HoMM V to the umpteenth degree, I'm seriously beginning to think that you are nothing more than a bot, rather than an actual human being capable of cogent thought.

Lets see:Frost giant, thunder bird, snow eagle, salamander, efreet, phoenix, behemot. Those are the suggestions for the 7th tier fortress Ive seen just here, and Im sure fans have even more creativity in them,so the list of alternatives is quite long.Adding another dragon(even though its a drake)just shows lack of originality.Especially if you look at how ridiculous the uograde(the transparent one)looks like.

I doubt i would mind it as much if it how it looked was better suited to the dwarves and really the game in general. To me it looks like a elementary school had a art contest and thats what won.

I rather like the idea of a frost giant as a level 7 unit for dwarves.

or maybe a mechanical unit of some kind.

the frost giant would be an easy makeover of the giant from academy.

quick remodel to change the skin color (to light blue?), with some clothing changes.

give them "call frost" ability that allows them to cast unlimted frost bolts like the titan's call lightning ability. give the upgrade a new spell called "avalanche" or "ice storm" that is like meteor shower, but does cold damage, and they could cast it say twice per combat.

wouldn't be too hard.

Mechanical unit=Dragon Tank
Also I disagree about just reskinning the titan I think a frost giant would look much better as that ice monster from H4 I cant remember its name right now just make it bigger.
Edit: its called an Ice Demon.

yeah, that ice demon would be a cool skin. I just can't figure out how you could import the model for that from h4 into h5.

I think they're ok, I would just calll them lizard instead of dragon cause that what they look like to me..
they r fire/magma because that's the theme of the faction (that lives in snow terrain ;| :| ) and they're dragons because that the religion in the game. it does'nt make it ok but atleast understandable, for me anyway...

I think the concept is just fine, but I still absolutely hate the magma dragon texture - the one that looks like he is made of lava or something (and honestly I am still confused on which is which, because everything says "Magma Dragon" when the textures look like they should be reverse)

How can magma be an upgrade to lava anyway? Its weird.Magma dragons cannot even exist outside the bowels of the earth. Its like instead of phoenix we had firebird -> flamebird in HIII.Weird, dumb and unimaginative.

Last I checked Lava was Magma above ground, so I have no idea how this could be unupgraded/upgraded but hey I've done worse. As for dragons...yeah enought dragons right now. There has to be something more original out there, anything. A giant frog that sang karaoke would be an improvement *sighs*. Still the rune magic alone may make it worth it to play this town. I am so looking forward to something different.

I use one liners because I don't like to talk much! I am defending the game because I am a big FAN it! If you hate it, go and visit some Heroes of Might and Magic 3 or 4 forums!

I agree you like the game... but c'mon... even if you do you can't possibly like everything in it...

And yeah... another dragon is lame and it proves how much they lack imagination. But of course having a town that has only dwarves(with bats of differents sizes) as lvl 1-6 units prooves the same thing...

Lava Dragons and Magma Dragons are one of the worst unit names I've ever heard in so many games I play. Dragons made of lava or magma? Why dont they just stick to the cliche fire dragon or red dragon?

Because Ubival thinks cliche wont work anymore so they rather focus on their own unstable mix of ideas, some good some bade. And I hate their lack of knowledge when it comes to seeing the difference between a Dragon and a Drake!

i am not so much into video game fake myhology, but in Avernum(a newer copy of Exile) drakes had wings. in Warcraft3 they had wings(and were just a smaller copy of Dragon, with the same model&texture). Why not just Ash Lizard -> Lava Lizard?

At least its nice they cant fly. I would even like using them as long as they dont resemble too much Dragons, they are ok now. now PHOENIX would be something i wouldnt like as dwarf tier 7, i mean dwarves are small sturdy, and then comes a nimble bird? AND ANOTHER FLYING TIER 7??? NOOO! i wish phoenix had been in Sylvan(emerald was just a cheap retint anyway, and greenie could go neutral), but alas, it was not to be.
