is confusion broken?
I just tried casting confusion on a stack of 400 marksmen vs. Computer. Their damage actually increased.

I've done a lot of testing and tinkering with this, and have come to the conclusion that somebody failed to program in partial effects for this spell into the game engine itself (not the data file for the spell).
no matter what partial values you set for this, it essentially has no effect unless the base value is "1".
in other words, it has no effect unless cast at expert level.
you can experiment with it by changing the base and power related values for the spell and see for yourself.
I ended up changing the base value to "1" for it at advanced level instead of just expert.
at least it's only useless for 2 levels instead of 3.

yeah, i woulda dropped it after the first campaign...
except the engine itself has so many possibilities, the artwork is really well done in many areas, and it's just hard to knock homm in true 3D.
It's just full of a lot of irritating little oversights that become maddening at times.
I'm thinking that a good idea would be to move the spell to a level 4 spell, and just make it default to 100% effectiveness at the start.
maybe move blindness down one level to compensate.
ah, another thread for the mod guild.

In the words of a time hopping quantum leaper: "Oh boy..."
Seriously, the question was about the spell overall, and someone already pointed out it only works on expert. So what was the point of your statement? Now, go try it without experd dark magic and then report back.

I'm sorry I had a moment of stupidity there.Initially reading the post I had understood that it DOESN'T work on expert-I'll be more careful from now on.I thought I'd test it anyway and here's what I found:ThunderTitan wrote: Seriously, the question was about the spell overall, and someone already pointed out it only works on expert. No skill:No change,50%
Basic:From 258-414 ranged damage drops to 178-286(affected 30%)
Advanced:From 268-430 to 240-384(affected 10%)
So it seems that values have been intoverted.Instead of affecting 70% it affects 30% on basic and 10% instead of 90% on advanced.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

So do Djinn/Djinn Sultans cast at expert level or do they waste their special when they cast confusion?

Well, that would explain a lot.Its just a simple reversing of the numbers.Happens a lot.But its no excuse for it staying in there for three patchesElvin wrote: I'm sorry I had a moment of stupidity there.Initially reading the post I had understood that it DOESN'T work on expert-I'll be more careful from now on.I thought I'd test it anyway and here's what I found:

Thank god scientists arent thinking like that,or wed never have even fire.Shuyssar wrote: Stop whining! Nothing is perfect.

interesting; I never though to invert the values and see what that did.Basic:From 258-414 ranged damage drops to 178-286(affected 30%)
Advanced:From 268-430 to 240-384(affected 10%)
So it seems that values have been intoverted.Instead of affecting 70% it affects 30% on basic and 10% instead of 90% on advanced.
if correct, this would be an easy fix.
btw, djinn (both versions) cast at advanced level.
edit:
confirmed.
funny, i looked back at the old bug thread and noticed the first time i mentioned the bug (before the latest patch), i hazarded that the formula might be inverted, but for some reason, never actually bothered to test that idea until it was brought up again in this thread by Elvin.
*shrug*
anywho, it's fixed now and I'll upload it today. I put a hattip to Elvin in the readme.
I haven't put it in the table, but you can grab it here:
