Heroic Campaign?

Unread postby DigitalMocking » 04 Oct 2006, 06:22

Granted, I'm still new and trying to get better at this, but I recently tried starting campaign 3 on the heroic setting (1.3 patch) and I just don't see how you could ever get anywhere on heroic in that campaign.

I tried restarting half a dozen times, using different strategies, not attacking the monsters in front of the reinforcements, different paths to avoid the AI and every time I get stomped.

I'm just curious, how do you guys do that campaign mission one on Heroic?

Complete walkthrough. However, I do not honestly know if it has been adapted to patch 1.3 yet. Patch 1.3 has totally changed resource management, ect and might be a lot harder then earlier versions. (Prefer 1.1 so far despite its 'bugs'). Hope I have the right campain :). The necromancer one correct? If so, fight any undead stack you come accross with the necromancer. They will always join him. On heroic that means he should be getting some big help quick (bigger stacks on heroic). Never engage any undead stack by any other hero. Even if desperate for that hero some exp (the creatures are more useful the the exp). Now once you have all upgraded units on your main necro (Markal or however his name is spelled) you can decide if having non-upgraded undead are worth the effort of switching out creatures to get them or not. Personally, I just left the zombies in the towns and joined up any non-upgraded stacks and upgraded them before going to the next non-upgraded stack. Let Markal do all the heavy fighting, sticking to exp from chests and learning stones for exp for Isabel and Godrick. You want them to get levels but the added skel archers or undead stacks are just too useful in heroic. :). Anyhow that is my 2c worth.

Oh and take the gold from chests until you absolutely no longer need it. If you have your enemy down to one castle and you have plenty of gold (rarely if ever happens on heroic) then by all means ..exp away :).
Warning, may cause confusion, blindness, raising of eybrows, and insanity. Image

I just noticed a weird bug in the first Markal mission.

The first thing you see to the north is a stack of skeletons. The message you get is "90 Skeleton" want to join.

When you accept, you only get 47 in your army, not 90.

That seems odd.

the number that join are dependent on the hero's level.

50% of the stack will join +2% per level. So at level 1 52% will join. 52% of 90 is 47 skeletons. The great thing about this hero is the fact that all undead will join you, so seek those stacks out and then take out the neutrals. I just finished it on heroic and have to say it was a good challenge even with this overpowered special.

I had to set the difficulty back to normal to complete this. I suck.

Yeah, walkthroughs for C3M1, C3M2, and half of C3M3 are updated for patch 1.3. The rest are the same as what they started with. Hope you find the updated info. useful. I try not to alter the original author's meaning, unless the patch has made the original strategy quite impossible.

There seems like there's a weird disparity between normal and hard.

On normal I waltzed through the entire mission and had a monster army at the end. On hard I just don't have the forces to defeat the orange player at the end, too much attrition just getting to him.

Actually, you should probably take out any neutrals you can BEFORE going for the undead stacks. Extra battles = extra experience = extra levels = more of the stack will join.

Yeah. On higher difficulties you need to work hard to minimize casaulties. With raise dead you will hardly lose any unit with Markal during neutral encounters, even on patch 1.3.
