Where did this map come from? And why is there a huge hole where Stonehelm used to be?

I don't think the map was changed at all. The only difference is that there's a huge crater in the center now, which seems to indicate something ker-ploded there (with enough force to basically shatter the continent).

It seems that, in this map Ashan is displayed after some catastrophic event, meteor impact? This map could be showing what to expect in future HOMM/M&M games.

Yeah. If you notice, the crater is where Stonehelm used to be, which is why I wonder if this is indicative of something that happens in DMoM&M (since Stonehelm is a city you visit in that game - therefor it must still exist at some point when that game starts).

I still wonder where the image originally came from though.

It seems some cataclysm changed the geography of Ashan. But still, there are some lands that came out of nowhere if we compare this map with the other one: the Blight, Thyssus, Lost Palaedra (there was no Palaedra there in the first place... ;| ), Nariya and Hashima Islands... All in all, this is very very strange...

But I must say, I like this map much more than the old one!

And Kreegar is just a fraction of a letter short of Kreegan. :Z

I'm still snickering over "Doomstar" though. :D

You can *sort* of see The Blight on the old map (it's a lot smaller, but so is Irollan). Thyssus is there, just not labeled. Lost Palaedra is def. new and I'm guessing it falls somewhere in the south of the Griffin Empire (maybe where that delta is?). Nariya and Hashima are both there tho, just not labeled. They are also slightly smaller on that map (but I don't think that map's scale is very accurate)

Really the only *new* landmass (not counting changed stuff like the Doom Sea crater) is the Unknown East which was cut off on the old map. The Shrouded South is also shown a bit more (even more on the tiny globe part). Then otherwise everything is there on the old one, just not labeled or changed a little (like the Doom Sea or Palaedra)

Could also be a naturally occuring event, not involving some other, drastic, event. Maybe the world's plates are moving, separating the land into smaller pieces. Stonehelm just gets a very bad deal in this.

Though, it does, somewhat, seem like it would be too fast on a change like this.

Indeed!

But, easter-eggs or not, this map has some geographical explaining to do.
But (again), this is in any case awesome!

Occasionaly you can get something interesting from Ubi's FTP site, maybe Evilp got it there.
This could be the map for Might and Magic X.

@Warlock
I think you're right about the scale. The old maps looks sorta cartoonish too...

I noticed a thing: see how lines emerge from the Doom Sea and go to Nessus in Kreegar, Nariya in Hashima (seems like N. isn't an isle after all), Chaga-Dai in Khotan, Al-Safir in Al-Shazzar (is that the name of the Silver Cities?), Lagesh in Thyssus, Carlevor in the Empire and Tam Avlee in Irollan. These seem to be capital cities of the various kingdoms or something.

Yeah, I was wondering if maybe this was among the "leaked screenshots" from about a week back, though I never heard anything Might & Magic in that group. I would have thought it would have been pointed out before now if that was the case.

Blight?! Is that like the Scourge?

Look too crowded, and kinda stale.

I agree that the geographical distribution of the lands gives that impression, especially around Lost Palaedra. But I also think that that particular map is crowded with all those lines, so the first impression might be wrong. Plus, we don't know the scale.

And 'blight' is a common English word.

And is Stonehelm gone, or just too small to show up on that map?

@tLd:
I know what blight is, that's not what i was asking.

The Blight is probably where the Niccoli set up camp when he invaded Irollan.
