Irresistible magic
Irresistible magic
Do you think irresistible magic should affect your own creatures?... I belive it's a major downside not being able to cast spells like fireball or armageddon when you have only your black dragons... I used to use this strategy ever since heroes 1...
If you get armageddon in your mage guild might as well put it to some use, because if not you have little options in using it...
i think it should affect only enemies or at least you should be able to cast other beneficial spells on your BD...

Voted NO. What exactly are BD's good for if they can't resist spells? It's not bad enough SD's don't resist spells at all. If they really want just have Armageddon work like that, but leave the BD immune to the rest.

Not gonna to voting, but hope in more diversity, so some spells on highest levels (or on the contrary before the highest levels) should be able to hurt your own creaters but some creatures should be resistent to some group of speels in many ways.
In other words, bring BD complete immunities back!

molding magic...
hmm, that reminds me of a skill in NWN that was added by the PRC that allowed archmages to modify their spells to not hurt friendlies. made it great to be able to cast a fireball right on one of your troops that was surrounded, or cast chain lightning without worrying about it hitting your own troops.
I think that would be a great high-level feat to add to the sorcery tree.
hard to do though; I haven't been able to figure out from the data files if there even is a way to make an offensive area effect spell avoid damaging friendlies.

I should add that when a great wizard summons a humongous meteor from outer space and crashes it in the middle of fourteen creatures, how exactly is he supposed to prevent one of them, in most cases BDs, to get it in the rear just like others? This is not a magic arrow you can direct, it is an area spell..
I voted yes, it should affect every crit.
P.S: In NWN, like D&D, area spells do affect your allies as well

I don't know. But then again, how does the Black Dragon normally avoid the effects of the meteors?cornellian wrote:I should add that when a great wizard summons a humongous meteor from outer space and crashes it in the middle of fourteen creatures, how exactly is he supposed to prevent one of them, in most cases BDs, to get it in the rear just like others?

They should be just immune to all spells cast by the leading hero, allied creatures and all ennemies that do not have irresistible magic.
That was the strength of warlocks/sorcerers throughout the heroes game... their ultimate creature was immune to their devastating spells.
So you could cast armageddon, fireball, meteor shower, chain lightning and other AOE spell without any losses. You got to admit though it's an end game combo...
