hmm -- I preferred the Life, Order, Death, Nature schools of magic in 4 over the Eath, Fire, Air, and Water conglomerate style of 3 myself...

Yeah, I preferred HOMM4's magic over HOMM3 as well.

Still, I voted for Air as my favorite because my favorite spell of all time is Chain Lightning.

I probably missed it, but does this poll mean a return to the old schools?

With all the negative comments about Heroes IV and the praises for Heroes III, perhaps Nival and Ubi didn't want to take any chance... Two polls in two about H3, that's got to tell something.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

I liked the magic schools from Heroes IV better than the ones in Heroes III. Much more diverse. Completely different playingstyle with every faction.

Maybe they're just doing it for fun? I got a nagging feeling that they're not but I'm hoping.

Oh, and its favorite :p

I am sure Angelspit is right. I personally preferred iv for the diversity as well. On first glance order/life looked alot less poweful than death/chaos. Once you learn how to use the spells like teleport/mass bless you realize just how powerful they are. But the strategies were so completly different on spell use and building armies made the towns so unique.

I will play either way, but the magic system in iv was one of it's strong suits IMHO.

I agree; I really enjoyed playing the H4 magic system. Order magic was addictive; I really had to force myself to play other schools. But totally enjoyed all of them!

Earth was definately the most important, with air as second. It was all about Townportal, Dimension door, Fly, Haste and Slow.

Earth was always the one I hoped to get. Air was next best.

As for H4, they are all pretty good. Casting Snake Strike and Dragon Strength on a horde of Griffins is just beautiful to watch.

This is a tough one. All the H3 schools had good spells, really well balanced. H4, however, had very unbalanced schools. At first, they seem cool because they are town specific, and each have their own strength and weaknesses, but Death really falls behind. Nature becomes better only at high levels, where you can summon faerie dragons and stuff. Order and Chaos are by far the best, and Life is pretty even throughout. As for the poll, i think i missed it, but i would've picked air.
