I just recently found my old copy of Heros II Gold and tried to install on my current computer which runs on Win XP. When I put the CD in the DVD drive, the auto-run kicks in and the menu with play, install, and editor pops up. Now here's the problem: when I click on INSTALL, i get a pop up saying "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'Close" to terminate the application". I was given two options to either close or ignore. When I click on ignore it would load for 10 secs then closes and nothing happens....Please help because I really want to play heroes II again. Same happens if I just click PLAY instead of INSTALL.
My computer stats:
Pentium 4 2.53GHZ
640MB RAM
Geforce 4 TI 4200 128MB
sound blaster live! 5.1

The issue you're experiencing is likely due to compatibility problems. Open the cd directory manually, right click on the setup/install file, choose properties, click the compatibility tab, and enable 'run this program in compatibility mode for windows 95' and then click ok. Try installing after that.

It may take the program a while to run. Check the task manager to see if the process is running. If so, wait, or better yet, do something else and let it run. If you wait, the install may start after 5 to 10 minutes. I don't know why, but this has worked for me on a couple of old games. Panzer General and Homm 1 & 2 (I think) worked like this for me. Hope this helps.
