Dungeon Campaign, Map 2: The Expansion

Unread postby Gaussmini » 31 May 2006, 18:36

On hard difficulty, the computer gets lots of black dragons versus several of mine, after I have taken over the first town. Can anyone recommend any strategies for this map? I don't feel like restarting like I did SIX times for inferno mission 3 =/

Rush. You start with a nearly fully built town- use that advantage by going after the computer's towns as soon as you can. Summon creatures to your main hero as reinforcements, especially if you're near a well or an enemy town you intend to take. Don't worry too much about the Soulscar hero, you should have a comparable army but a better hero when he comes, if you've been careful.

Oh, and a word of advice: when you get Shadya, make sure to train her to the maximum level allowed as well as Raelag, and make sure to walk them around to enough mage guilds that they learn all they spells they can. The next map will be much harder if you don't.

Well I only played on Normal, and taking those 2 castles was a breeze.

What stage are you at in this map? I assume you have moved to the surface as soon as possible. The important piece of strategy for this map has been mentioned already, you need to use the summon creature spell from when you are beside a well. There is on well located on the north road and another south of where the roads intersect. You should be able to take the eastern castle on the surface with relative ease especially once you can summon the creatures you need and be only a couple turns away from sieging. If you go to the northeastern map on the surface you can summon creatures from the subterranean castle that is to the east.

If you are having problems just getting the first subterranean castle from the enemy then I suggest restarting, and perhaps knowing exactly where the castle is now will help you to take it more quickly.

Just so you know I played this on normal difficulty but I believe you should still be able to take that first castle fairly quickly. Good luck and post here if you get stuck on a certain spot. Oh and I recommend after taking the eastern surface castle that you leave Shadra to guard the roads for the messengers, but remember if they get through you dont lose, you just have to beat down another hero which wasn't hard.

I was able to take 4 of the 7 castles by week 2. With the starting army, on Ragael alone.

I have a question about this map.

Near the town you start in, there is a TAN keymaster hut. I cant find the gate though. I found a RED border guard, but no TAN.

Where is it?

TIA

The RED border guard is actually TAN, I mistook it for RED as well. If you right-click it, it should read TAN.
I was lookin’ back to see if you were lookin’ back at me to see me lookin’ back at you.

Not on Heroic you can't. The map is a very good challange for any player on heroic, but you're only chance is to take 1 town and then collect their heroes.

There are only 3 enemy castles in map 2...mixing it with third one?

If so, indeed recruiting enemy heroes is quite handy...but would argue it's the only chance for it.

On second map, no need to recruit them at all.

Hmmm, the underground keymaster tent near the starting castle says tan when right-clicked, whereas the borderguard above ground on the left side says it's red. Does anyone know where the red tent is, or the tan borderguard for that matter?

Or,you can kill all the heroes before they exit the map.

Btw,whats the deal with vlad in this map?He has the ring of sar isus and shackles of war,yet neither can be removed from him.Why isnt there any story for him?Is it just the nival lazyness again?

Is there some kind of bonus if you successfully stop the enemy heroes from reaching the exits of the map?

I failed that quest and they said there's gonna be trouble, I kinda like that B-)

First time I played, I had no chance to get a hero to a position where it could kill the first strugglers in time. Second time, I simply didn't care.

No idea. My guess is that he's meant to be picked up by the AI and sent towards you. Or he's a leftover from a time when the map was planned for something else.

Huh? I didn't get the cutscene about the messages until after I captured my first town with Raelag, who then had no chance to get there in time to stop the enemy heroes already near the crossorads.

So its time related then.I didnt rush this one,and lingered a bit in the underground at first.

I played this map twice, and both times the message came up about one turn after I took the first town. I believe I was faster on the second time, so I doubt it's time related.
