What Is this about Cartoony Graphics?!

Unread postby galganog » 25 May 2006, 17:49

I have heard people say that the graphics are cartoony

Websters Defines a Cartoon as

A drawing depicting a humorous situation, often accompanied by a caption.
A drawing representing current public figures or issues symbolically and often satirically: a political cartoon.
A preliminary sketch similar in size to the work, such as a fresco, that is to be copied from it.
An animated cartoon.
A drawing with grossly exagerrated physical features.

Now I have looked at every single creature in game and don't see one cartoony person except maybe the peasant. Even then it is based in reality. It looks like a Norweigan Soccer fan.

But seriously these are very realistic and proportional. They also look good.

Aside from the treant of course which looks sort of like evil twig man.

I say the same, the graphs is nowhere the Warcraft 3 graphics. Its people thats just have to insist on the smiliarities. They dont want to belive that the HV graphics are better, like religious fanatics that cant see how ridiculous their beliefs are. Except low and medium settings the graphics in HV are far above W3 standards, no doubt.

If WC3 was realeased today this is exactly how it would look.

And i don't agree that Cartoony Graphics = BAD. I just don't like the style used in this case.

Do not compare WIII graphics to HV, because when the game was released there were already comments about the old-looking graphic. But I think WIII is gorgeous. The graphic may be old, but it's full of details and has a lot of charm in it. I still can belive how Blizzard designers managed to make a graphic without any breathtaking new technologies ,yet, so unique and unreplaceable. Many new games will never be close to the level of WIII...

Of course, I don't want to criticize HV graphics, because I really like it, I just don't want any more comparements to WIII. WIII is one of my favourite game which will never loose it's position in my best-ever game list...

HeroesV graphics kick ass. cartoonish or not, I love them. They are lush, colourful and gorgeous, just how a Heroes game should be. The reason why I never thought or even wanted to play Heroes IV is because the graphics in general did not interest me, i felt they took away the charm and great look they had in heroes II and III. To me it just wasn't a heroes game (bear in mind i never played it...isn't HOMMIV generally regarded as the 'black sheep' of the Homm family anyway?)

anywhoo..i think they did a great job on the graphics. the only difference in quality which is really noticable is from Low > anything else.

It is, by the people who don't like it. And by those who think it's bad because some others says it is without actually having played it for themselves...
