[M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.4
[M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.4
Graphical modification aiming to repaint the original sprites for more realism. For this game the developers exclusively used 3D rendering for making graphics, which in comparison to M&M VI and it's use of stock imagery had its drawbacks, although made the artstyle look more consistent.
Please feel free to suggest changes, alterations for the characters.

Re: Portrait project - Might & Magic VII
This is amazing work! Great job!
I never liked the default MM7 NPC portraits -- they looked so goofy. These are way better. Good job!

Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v0.8 - Looksmaxxing Edition
Bump! v0.8 is out, overview is updated. Some orcs, elves and major characters.
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v0.8 - Looksmaxxing Edition
Looking good, I happen to have the female in row 12, colimn 3 as follower and she looks a lot more realistic now.
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v0.8 - Looksmaxxing Edition
This is simply amazing, and a great addition. I might play another run with MMMerge MM7, if this mod is done.
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v0.8 - Looksmaxxing Edition
Thanks! v0.9 is out! More major characters. Some are duplicated since the game duplicates the files as well
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v0.9 - Looksmaxxing Edition
Armsmaster master trainer in Avlee has a female first name, Paula Brightspear, but looks like a male .
Not sure if that was always the case.

Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v0.9 - Looksmaxxing Edition
True, sometimes the voices mismatch too, there are some inconsistencies, no idea what to do with that yet. Didn't know about the armsmaster though, thanks!
Version 1.0 is out! Added proper palettes, so the quality doesn't degrade much when the images are imported ingame, no more overbright pixels as well. Added sharp filter to make the images more readable, after downscaling they are a bit blurry. Fixed some portrait - character inconsistencies, added the last portraits.
For now I will probably move on to the player character portraits and will be revisiting the NPC portraits from time to time, to fix inconsistencies or make them better overall
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v1.1 - Looksmaxxing Edition
Version v1.2 is out. Portraits are now properly dithered. Player portraits now have properly generated palettes. Red outline on portraits, being a side effect of sharpening is fixed.
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Real Portraits v1.2 - Looksmaxxing Edition
Few crude examples of paperdolls tbd
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.3
Total Repaint v1.3 is out!
Player character 1 is completed with all the face states and a paperdoll. The update also includes some incomplete paperdolls for the other characters.

Re: [M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.3
Very nice! The inevitable question is, do you think you might do the same for MM6 & 8 so they all can be used in the merge mod?
Re: [M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.3
Thanks! Imo 6 is fine as is, the devs used a combo of stock imagery and manual art. As for 8 it could benefit a lot, although the game much improved in terms of 3D visuals, in some places with exceptional results like dragon / minotaur races.
Seems logical to adapt everything for merge later since many play only that today. But we'll see how it goes, even doing a single game is a lot of work.
Edit: version 1.4 is out! 2 more playable characters are complete.

Re: [M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.4
I very much like the NPC faces , but am not as positive about the faces of the player characters (Total Repaint 1.4)
Goblin
males : look like humans with green skin instead of goblins . especially the default male goblin looks that way .
females : eyes don't look right, but overall ok
Human
males : good
females : original of first 3 are prettier, 4th is very good
Elf
males : faces look wrong, maybe chin to narrow ?
females : eyes and mouth look weird
Dwarves
males : look fine
female eyes
Overall it seems the used algorithms have trouble with eyes and mouth . Maybe thin lines are hard on the algorithm ?
I'm staying on 1.0 for now.

Re: [M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.4
Well the representation of orcs and elves in Might & Magic games is a little off from what the modern fantasy have settled. So the algorithm is having trouble recreating them closely resembling, especially since I am allowing it to deviate a bit to get prettier results. Like for example the "elf eyebrows" seem to be quite uncommon in modern fantasy, hence they are missing here.
I have no idea to what extend the resulting inconsistencies will be fixed yet. The only sane way to do that would be to just manually paint over the current results. As for now I prioritize coverage over consistency with the original, because there's a lot to argue about which will just stall the development forever.
I've noticed the devs were painting over the eyes with some bright color, if you were to zoom in the original portraits it's very noticeable. I didn't do that, but maybe it is necessary. I think the eyes get lost after scaling down the images. Also many female variants use lots of makeup, so that blends the eyes further.
Edit:
Btw regarding the orcs, when I was doing the npcs, the results with the default settings where the algorithm tries to stay close to the source were producing crazy bad results, especially with them. The algorithm just didn't understand what it is looking at, so I had to crank up the settings and allow it to deviate a lot, so that we can get nice looking orcs. I did not do that for the player character orcs, hence maybe you are seeing similar results, imo they are not that bad, but maybe throwing away the originals here as well may be a proper direction. It's not too late for them, so got to experiment some, we'll see

Re: [M&M7 Mod] Total Repaint v1.4
Here's a quick test with eyes, clearly manually painting over is quite powerful, it's just you need to clearly know what you are doing. Left image is the new one, i've just added 4 dark pixels in a square shape to the eyes.
