Kings Bounty 2 is getting closer and closer. It's practically behind the doors. Pre-reviews looks acceptably good. Highliting nice gameplay, unique units, hard combat and choices, coming with 3 playable heroes. Story, ..perhaps too. (Not much touched anywhere yet.) Sometimes critizicing graphically weaker cut scenes. And hard combat, warning you to not to loose a single units, ..if you can.

This will be direct descendant of the Original King's Bounty from NWC. If 1C is good in something, that for sure is crafting an original game, there I hope, this one will shine.

Aivar (Warrior)
A long time ago, Aivar, descendant of an impoverished noble family, used to be a knight of the Royal Guard.

However, at crucial moment, he refused to support the coup that eventually led to king Claudius' ascension to the throne. This got him banished from the Guard. Aivar escaped to Artisania, where he earned a fine reputation as a mercenary, and became the captaion of his own troop: The Hounds of War

Recently, Aivar received an invitation to the Universal Assembly. There, Prince Adrian promised to pardon him and offered a good position within the Royal Guard.


Katharine (Mage)
Katharne comes from a ong line of noble Rigern counts, the rulers of the rugged mountain region of Nostria.

She spent more than twnty years away from Nostria, roaming the dragon ruins and the remains of ancient Antis, looking for arcane knowledge and magic. Unexpectedly even for herself, Katharine stopped receiving the taxes, she needed to fund her expeditions and mystical research.

Apparently, Katarine's nephew Maurice had take over her country. Outraged by this, she headed to the Universal Assembly in order to demand the return of her power from the King.


Elisa (Paladin)
Elisa is a peasant girl from Lorian, who believes in her special mission to save all of Nostria.

Her homeland in Lorian has been caught up in civil war for more than a ten years. During a clash between farmers and mercenaries, Elisa suddently acquired magic abilities, that helped her to push the enemy away from her village, and then even away from all of Southern Lorian.

Chosen by the will of her people, Elisa headed to the Universal Assembly. She wants the King to recognize her as a legate on behalf of her people. In that way, she sould gain access to military resources and other means of establishing order in Nostria.

I just checked some texts from the first official video and, I quite hope that in original russian language they are more smooth. This english is not top-notch, neither seems to be stories. Though there was a little text yet.

Added latest videos from yesterday, featuring Elisa. The Blonde Paladin.

According most reviews it shows that game will excel and be pretty rough in combat and unit management. But story won't be deep. From what I seen, it's below Dark Side quality. And that one actually lacked a bit vs Legend or AP.

So the biggest game breaker, seems that Denuvo Anti-Tamper protection DRM and timing. That's not fortunate, as of too late in August, though it gives sense from 1C own perspective. They do have marathon of action over August and this one comes on its end, as best comes as a last. Hmm.

The first review have mixed feelings... It's a big, ambitious game, but its RPG parts are not so good.

KB2 went the same path like the upcoming Disciples - more RPG and less strategy.

Sadly the story/heroes and all the RPG is what "killed" KB2 for me. This is not game worth 50 EUR... not even 30... maybe 20?
The game was clearly designed for consoles and its reminding you this fact every minute.
What I like are the battles but not the boring and SLOW linear exploration/story.

I am afraid the same will be true for Disciples.

Now, when Heroes are dead, what else do we have? Songs of Conquest but thats for next year...

Ohh... give me Disciples II remastered (like Diablo II) and all will be forgotten :-D

Back to KB2 - I watched numerous streamers and most of them (even when payed and sponsored) lost interest in KB2 in about 2h of gameplay. Only few remained playing and enjoyed it.

Also, if they wanted to present more open world they should at least add jump ability to the hero/horse as for now every small terrain elevation is a dead end for you :wall: So the joy of exploration is taken away by this and also the inability to interact while mounted - you have to mount, ride, dismount, interact (collect), mount and so on (with slow animations).

That's terrible. I certainly hope that they are going to fix that asap(disable animations at least). As of language it's also not top-notch quality, though it seems that for russians it's qualified.

The reviews are different now, I would wait a bit until it's stabilized. After D1 patch, or another patch, it only must come soon. They are aware, seems all this slipped.
Game kNight Plays — Today at 7:21 PM
Here is my feedback from my first 4 hours of playing King's Bounty 2 on PC:
  • Speed of mount/running needs an increase
  • Sprint button could solve the above, just replace it with the walk button
  • Auto/quick save is really needed!
  • Animated unit previews would make the game much more alive.
  • UI optimization (targeting buttons eg.) it is often hard to hit them with the mouse, so you end up moving instead.
  • Key remapping let us chose shortcuts for most actions, so we can remap that space bar as well!
  • More encounters, and especially encounters that you can choose to fight, and not because they are blocking your route.
Liking the game so far, had fun streaming!!

once they patch all the bugs/quality of life stuff + lower the price or at least do some % sale promotion I can take a closer look.

BTW the game is already in 1.2 version right now :)

It is slowly going up on Steam (55% atm) and it looks like most "hate" was from players stucked at 0,1-0,2h of gameplay. So if you manage to go through the tutorial island to the mainland it should be much better.

Yet I am still not convinced to buy it for 50 EUR, waiting for some deal and the must-have patches (quick save/load, mouse control and more).

Greetings, Hunters for King's Bounty! Over the past week, we have received many reports and messages from you on improving the game. First of all, we would like to say once again: thanks for your help, responsiveness, and patience!

Our team has carefully checked everything, and now it is time to reveal some of our plans for updating the game. Soon, we will release the first hotfix, which will bring the following changes:

The speed of all three main characters' movements (on a horse, too) will increase.
You will be able to perform certain actions on a horse without dismounting (trade-in items, opening chests, and much more).
Quicksave and quick-load.
More gold in the Royal Lands.
Final twist of the story campaign fix.
Some changes in balance and minor bugs.
And other things.


Short note:
most likely, the update will first release on the PC and a little later on consoles, but we will inform you about it later.

Also, in the next patches, we plan to add new difficulty levels, customize controller settings, the ability to speed up animation in battle, general UI/UX improvements and game optimization on all platforms, a photo mode, a separate in-game tab with all the notes, books, etc., and much more.

So I got the game for free (Twitch) and after +-50h finished it with mage character.

Choosing mage was a challenge as your mana resource is limited and shared (casting spells, learning spells from scrolls, upgrading spells), your army is weak due to low leadership and your direct spells do not deal much damage on low levels.

If you are not saving your mana you can get into trouble soon (same for money/gold). But once you keep at least 300-400 mana reserve you are all good.

I started with patch 1.2 and finished with hotfix 1.3 - mostly increased walking speed + some minor bug fixes. I played at slow and steady pace, not skipping a single dialogue and exploring all possible locations on the map (collecting everything ofc).

Even if the map is small, it is very dense. I have completed all sidequests + trials. Those trials are somehow meh - you have to leave your hero and army and command a stranger with predefined stats, spells and units. Its a puzzle fight but sometimes very frustrating as it depends more on the randomness of criticals + additional turns than your tactic. But the rewards from those trials are worth the pain.

Speaking of rewards and items - more like 90% is trash that is only there to be sold (its a pity as they made so many unique items just for this). Rest are some sets that you will not gather in one run as those can be locked behind your choices. The only full set I managed to collect was the one for better selling/buying prices...

What I liked a lot was the atmosphere and fantasy feel of the world. I got the feeling of "just look there, just do this, just collect that and I go to bed...". Last time I had this was with Heroes games :) Story was nothing special and the ending was not so satisfactory as I would expect. And yes, there will be DLCs/expansion if KB2 sells well.

What I liked the most were the battles. Very diverse units that can be leveled and get better (in term of stats and abilities) + the fun finding the best tactic on the battlefield. I hated and loved at the same time the obstacle system in KB2. Even small boulder could stop my archers from using their range attack but if used well it also protected my units from the enemy. Not sure if it was balanced (I would change the blocking factor for penalty one like in heroes 50/25% reduced range damage but you can still shoot).
As I was order/magic oriented, I used only those troops + spells. At the last third of the game I switched to mostly order units + Red Dragon wich was a deadly combo. My combat routine was like:

1. debuff all enemies (min damage, - armor).
2. buff all allies (max damage, + range damage, + fire damage).
3. summon tanky Chimeras and wreck havoc with range units + dragon.
4. resurrect fallen allies if needed.

Also, if some units get harmed you can get those back (not always all of them) after combat by healing them for some gold (cheaper than buying new ones).

Was anything too strong aka OP? Yes: Blindness spell (basically let you choose 2 enemy units and remove them from combat for 2/3 turns - they will skip their turns and just stand still and wait to get killed). This spell should be like in Heroes games - if you hit the enemy, the spell is removed.

As I was skeptical from the start I can say now that I liked KB2. Let say 75% out of 100%.

The big issue for me was and still is price tag of 50 EUR - this game is 25 EUR max! Its not an AAA open world game like Witcher.

Also I took KB2 not as a sequel to KB but as a standalone product and so I enjoyed it more.

Gameplay and balance changes
Added setting to speed up the course of the battle.
New rewards system for Aivar — less mana, more other resources, and items.
Added a special display of the duration of the effect on a unit in the unit's info window.
The descriptions of the starting talents of all three main characters have been changed.

Fixed an issue with the inability to wait for a unit that used the Hit and Run ability in the last turn.

Users can find the Resurrection Scrolls at the quarantine outpost on the road and near the Magefactory.
Increased deployment area in the arena of the Old Outpost.
Fixed an issue when enemy heroes (captains) could not use the entire book of spells during battle.
The bonus of the Advantage Talent was reduced (10/25/40 < 10/20/30).
The characteristics of level 5 units are reduced by 15%.

Quests
Fixed an issue with quest Village Healer — users can start collecting lilies in the swamps even before taking the quest Trappers/The Thousand Year Oak.
Fixed an issue with collecting two Oak Seed during the quest The Ritual.
Fixed an issue with the disappearing Power path during quest Marcellan Aqueduct after the conversation with Garret.
Quest Exceeding Expectations — the possibility of taking the quest is now more noticeable for users.
Added a label for the quest Collect Sequestor’s seal.
Fixed an issue with not disabled magician traders at the quarantine outpost at the Magefactory, if the user entered the Magefactory by choosing the ideal of Anarchy.

PC-specific
Added the ability to track the quest in the Journal by double-clicking with the left mouse button.
Added a special setting to turn off the backlight through the Razer Chroma Controller.
Default FOV and mouse sensitivity changed.
Fixed an issue with miss clicking the ability icon in battle.
Fixed an issue with the appearance of tips on different screens (New game, Army, recruiter, start and the end of the battle)
Added option to buy units by double-clicking the left mouse button.
Added tooltips when hovering over the Defense and Waiting icons.

Hotfix 2.1
We released Hotfix №2.1 only for PC with a very small, but the great change in the main interface: from this day tooltips are automatically hidden when you hover the mouse over any element, and also do not overlap the previous open tooltips.

Hotfix 3
The third hotfix for King's Bounty II is live on PC (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in progress). In this update, we focused on further improving the game's overall stability and fixing the most common issues that could block progression. Here's what changed:

Gameplay and balance changes
Added a new kind of interaction with NPC when the main character rode a horse.
Corrected and improved the additional turn — now unit can get an additional turn if users choose the defensive tactic.
Corrected and improved the skill Taunt — from now on, the ability is applied to a specific target, which the player or AI must choose himself (for one turn). The unit targeted by the Taunt receives a debuff and users (or AI) lose control over this unit. This unit will attack the one who imposed this debuff on it.
Enemy hero (captain) moved to a free hex in the arena during the quest The Missing Treasurers.
Fixed an issue with the impossibility of blocking Taunt by using Resilience talent.
Fixed an issue where a dragon could attack an allied squad standing on a hex with a defeated enemy squad.

Interface
Added two additional quicksave slots.
Added a new setting to hide the shield, weapon, and hats during dialogues.
From now on, users can move several units at once from the reserve to the main army.
Improved and corrected the display of the impossibility of healing killed soldiers at the end of the battle.
Improved and corrected the display of charges of skills and notifications about recharging/the reason for the inability to use the skill.
Removed the display of the cost of talent when it has already been studied.
Added a special hint with the description of the reason for the impossibility of learning a spell from the scroll.
Added a special hint with the description of the reason for the impossibility of equipping high-rank items.
Added a special hint with the amount of health in numbers during battles and on before/winning battle screens.
Fixed an issue where the lower combat panel hints are not showing during the battle when using the main settings.
Fixed an issue with the intersection of the quest title with the main quest journal tasks.
Fixed an issue with the tracking quests system (if users choose one quest point).
Fixed an issue where users can’t select anything in the main menu and pause menu.
Fixed an issue with the missing scrollbar when users buy units from Recruiters (if they offer more than five squads at once).
Reduced camera distance above the ground in several areas.
Fixed an issue with camera shake when users try to choose squads in small arenas.
Fixed an issue where an item’ or set’ spell was displayed in the book of magic.
Fixed an issue where wounded soldiers were displayed as defeated in predicting a retaliatory attack in the presence of the passive skill Fatal Strike.

Graphics, sound, animation, and general stability
Fixed any possible crashes during battles in the quest The Scryer's Trials.
Fixed an issue where lighting changes dramatically at the entrance to the dungeon on the quest Iron Men.
Added a special sound effect when users are buying weapons and shields from merchants.
Fixed an issue where lighting changes dramatically in Floster.
Fixed an issue where lighting changes dramatically near the tomb in a large cemetery.
Fixed an issue where the atmosphere can change dramatically due to the influence of The Blight.
Fixed an issue with blinking light in the cave during the quest Haven of the Enlightened Ones.
Fixed an issue with the lighting in Valbert's office and dwarf camp during the quest Axes and Splinters.
Fixed an issue with blinking light in the house of Carabose during the quest Tricked Witch.
Fixed an issue with textures of Militiaman's Shield equipment and weapons.
Updated and improved visual effect for the skill Taunt.
Fixed an issue with the texture of the Spirits of Light unit. Also, their portrait in different menus has been changed.
Fixed an issue with no visual effect when using Precise Strike ability (Spearmen unit).

Localization
Fixed an issue with the wrong squad title Free Archers in the German localization (from now on — Freie Bogenschützen)
Fixed an issue with the wrong description of skill Taunt in the English localization (from now on — "Inflicts the Taunt debuff on the enemy unit").
Fixed an issue with the description of the skill Replenish in the English (for now on — "Completely restores its own Health. Consumes Attack AP").

Achievements
Fixed an issue where players couldn't claim the achievement "Folly of the Brave" if the main hero is wearing clothes with the ability to cast a spell at the beginning of the battle.

Quests
The battle and the ending of the quest In the Void have been fixed and improved.
Added a new cutscene at the end of the quest Exceeding Expectations.
Remedius moves from the Old Tower after completing the quest Through the Quarantine (the Anarchy path).
Added a special reward-scroll for completing the quest Village Healer.
Added a special target for the Uncover the Order of Mages’ secrets sub-quest during the main quest Philanthropist and Patron of the Arts.
Added the treasury chest title during the quest The Missing Treasurers.
Fixed an issue with incorrect calculation of Ideal points in the quest Finding Lindsey (path of Finesse).

Fixed an issue when players can see Razer Chroma setting in the main menu.
Fixed an issue when heroes’ descriptions overlap with the Talents’ descriptions (Japanese localization only).

PC-specific
Improved key remapping in the settings.
Added removal of quest tracking by double-clicking on a sub-task
Fixed an issue with dark light when users change the camera angle on maximum graphics settings.
Fixed an issue with disabling the Razer Chroma keyboard backlight after a battle.
Fixed crashes that occurred after users quickly moved the mouse cursor from active skills of units to other troops.
