The 'treasure chest question' has been here even longer, since 1990 to be exact. It was in King's Bounty too.
A cat is fine too...

Another trick: the AI will always attack ranged units first if able. This can sometimes be exploited. You can stacks of 1 centaur, for example, to lure or distract the AI in battle.
