The role-playing games (I-X) that started it all and the various spin-offs (including Dark Messiah).

Developing of a rogue-like hexagonal game in M&M setting

Unread postby AlexYeCu » 29 May 2014, 13:04

About a year ago (or more) WoX2 project, where I was a modeler (one of) has died. After that I`ve decided to start my own project like a programmer. I`ve selected love2d and lua as the engine and the language.I`ve also taken some graphical resources (inventory), ideas etc. from WoX2.

What am I planning to do: 2d party crpg with top-down view, turn-based combat system in M7M settings. Enroth (as a planet), Antagarich (yes, M7M VII is the best in my opinion), several years after one stupid half-elf and one stupid barbarian have almost destroyed the planet.

At this moment some things are done:
- map, constructing from hexagonals and tiles;
- an editor fro creating these maps (landscape only,mobs, chests, quest-triggers ll be added later);
- path finding;
- FoV,LoS,FoW.
- turn based battles;
- extremly buggy and dumb ai for melee mobs;
- inventory system (you can put on things, drop them, etc.);
- alchemy;
-picklocking with 3 types of locks (traps ll be added later);
- alchemic grenades;
- alchemic oils for modding weapons;
- magic — about 30% of all spells (fireball, stonewall, healing, meteors, resurrection, mental magic ets.);
- shooting and melee;
- 2 types of mobs and one class for player;
- decals fol blood and ash;
- books you can read;
- minimap;
- possibility of translation to different languages;
- tones of bugs.

What am I planning to do in future:
- normal ai, ai for shooter and mages;
- social system (quests, talks, reputation);
- party creation and levelling up;
- special abilities for weapons;
- lightning system and some other moments for stealths;
- save and load.

I`m not planning to do:
- supreme graphic and animation;
- real time.

I`d like to find some more people who wants to develop this project with me. First of all, of course, I want to find some artists, modelers, level designers, etc. My part is programming, game mechanisms, etc.

Unfortunately no. Our programmer have no more interest to continue the work, some other people (modellers and level designers) have no time for the project, and as for me — I can not continue the project alone. That`s why I`ve started my own project, that can be at least programmed by only one person — me. So, now I`m looking for artists and other people who want to see Enroth and Antagarich alive.

Any plans to have an English translation? I'd like to see this game come to fruition!

Well, the translation is possible: all game resources which can be translated are grouped at separate files.

As for the game, even now, about 1,5 years later after starting, I can not find people, who want to do something for the project. So, there is nether artists nor writers in a project. And I can not do everything alone. Looks like this project has the same destiny as any other fan`s project in old M&M universe.
