I played all the HoMM 5 Campaigns years ago without patching.
I decided it would be fun to replay and I have finished the first campaign and the first two missions of the second campaign without patching.
I installed all patches through 1.6 after completing the second Cultist Mission.
Now, whenever I lose Agrael and again when I win the scenario the game crashes. The crash occurs before the Campaign.sav file is updated so the only way I can continue to Mission 4 is with the Agrael from years ago.
The only thing I can think of is to uninstall and reinstall. Then apply one patch at a time until the problem reappears. Then do the whole thing over stopping just short of the faulty patch.
What a beating!
My OS is Vista.
I really did search to see if this has already been discussed, I apologize if I missed it.
Thanks for any help!
Patched through 1.6, now crashes at end of mission

I started with TotE, so I don't know but I've a question for you. I know Vista has similarities with 7, do you have "User Accounts"?
This is a reach and a long one at that, but recently I dialed-up my security settings and when I did...all maps and gamesaves reverted to some other time. When I dialed the silly crap back, everything went to back to normal and then those other saves became invisible. This stuff is really nutz, I just love MS.
Conflicts with gamesaves and maps (dates)could easily cause crashes, since crashes can happen with reloads at any time.

That doesn't ring any bells but I'll look into it, thanks.
I have discovered that if I start the Warlock Campaign and let the hero lose the game doesn't crash but simply goes back to the main menu.
I think I'll try playing the first mission of a campaign that doesn't use Agrael and see if it will save the end of the campaign.
