Need advice

In the last mission there are at least two boss battles which one should I do first Uriel or that worm thing? I can't seem to get the special abilities of the various elementals and creatures I have in my army to work. I can't get that gauge thing to work either. There is probably a couple more boss fights coming up.

The gauge only works with troops of your faction, meaning it's almost worthless in the final mission. You should grab all the elemental stacks first and finish the summoning quest to get all sorts of troops. I ended up using the master creatures for the boss fights (supported by elementals) and the elementals for the rest.
